About the Role
As a Business Development Manager, you will play a vital role in the Business Development function, leaning on skills in partnership development and in and financial publishing strategy. The role has its specific focus on fostering growth in our society publishing program. This role calls for a highly experienced and qualified professional with a deep understanding of conceptual and practical aspects of business development. Additionally, you may find yourself leading projects, mentoring and coaching staff, and serving as a resource for colleagues. Your work will significantly impact the growth of our society partnership business, customer relations, operational efficiency, and service activities within your team and related teams.
Responsibilities
- Enabling publishers in leading renewal negotiations and develop strategies for client retention;
- Enabling publishers in identifying new business opportunities and lead efforts to secure them;
- Creating publishing financial models that combine article strategy, price realization and development, cost development to meet society and our own commercial and publishing goals;
- Creating new publishing contracts and renewing existing ones for long-term sustainability;
- Establishing and nurturing relationships with institutions and societies to expand our society publishing program;
- Fostering engagement within the publishing community and ensuring informed decision-making;
- Communicating the value of our partnerships to external stakeholders;
- Utilizing feedback programs to encourage innovation and accountability in the organization;
- Supporting and driving Centres of Expertise to implement innovative ideas within our societies.
Requirements
- Demonstrate mastery of your field, ability to solve complex problems, and work independently;
- Have an accredited education in a relevant field (Business, Finance, Strategy, or related disciplines);
- Have solid publishing financial models solving skills, with the ability to approach challenges from a principled and pragmatic perspective;
- Have experience in business development, with a proven track record of successful growth initiatives and contract negotiations;
- Display proficiency in working with publishing communities and societies. Coupled with a good understanding of industry best practices and internal/external business issues;
- Capability to train and guide junior staff, interpersonal skills to build consensus and relationships;
- Able to drive innovation, exercise judgement and analyze multiple sources of information;
- Able to convey the value of partnerships and initiatives to external stakeholders.
