Business Manager I Full Description

Overview: 
The Business Manager I will manage and coordinate the business operations for assigned units within the Office of Research. They will oversee activities that may include, but not limited to, budget preparation and control, human resources activities and processes, accounts payable, accounts receivable, contract and grant accounting, cashiering, and auxiliary enterprises.
 
This position is eligible for hybrid telework within the state of Utah Responsibilities: 
  1. Functions as a primary resource and business consultant to the director and staff in the assigned Office of Research units.
  2. Provides the unit director financial reports as needed to assist with the decision-making process.
  3. Communicates policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to business operations.
  4. Oversees and manages daily activities and transactions within assigned area, including p-card, financial banner, travel, and personnel functions.
  5. Performs functions such as budget preparation, budget reconciliation, EPAF creation, data management, and fiscal information support.
  6. Ensures payroll is properly recorded and processed.
  7. Develop and maintain databases & spreadsheets to be used for ad-hoc reporting.
  8. Maintains annual budgets using proper accounting/budgeting methods and retains records of financial figures for comparison with estimated budget.
  9. Coordinates, designs, and implements financial/management systems.
  10. Processes graduate assistantships, tuition awards, scholarships, and graduate insurance.
  11. Communicates and coordinates with other colleges and departments within and outside USU regarding financial matters.
  12. Reconciles and reviews financial statements to ensure accuracy.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
 Qualifications:
Minimum Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Banner, specifically the Finance and HR modules.
  • Experience with EZ-Buy, procurement, and p-card processing.
  • Experience with the Argos Reporting System.
  • Experience with ServiceNow.
  • Experience working in USU Business Services
  • Knowledge of USU policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of finance enterprise systems and software.
  • Computer skills, including Excel and Windows.
  • Knowledge of management reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Knowledge of procedures used in the financial field.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Skilled in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Knowledge of software to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections.
  • Knowledge of current business issues and trends.
