Job Description

The School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment is seeking a Business Operations Specialist Sr.. This position serves as the primary point of contact for staff, students, and faculty and provides comprehensive human resources and financial administrative support. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Business Services the candidate will perform a variety of financial, payroll and human resources functions within a complex academic unit.

Essential Duties

  • HR Liaison & Compliance: Partner with ASU Fulton College Dean's office to advise on employee relations, resolve grievances, and ensure all departmental activities align with university policies.

  • Payroll & Timekeeping: Act as the subject matter expert for payroll reconciliations and timesheet accuracy. You will proactively investigate discrepancies and ensure timely processing for all staff members.

  • Audit Coordination: Lead the preparation for internal and external audits. You'll maintain the "paper trail" verifying salary levels, approval hierarchies, and internal reconciliation processes.

  • Faculty & Staff Support: Coordinate personnel actions specifically for faculty and serve as the go-to resource for resolving complex benefit issues for students, staff, and faculty alike.

  • Administrative Excellence: Manage personnel files, prepare high-level reports, and utilize HR software to streamline departmental workflows.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Represent departmental interests in university-wide initiatives and meetings, ensuring our HR practices remain collaborative and integrated.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining and retaining unit personnel files; payroll management; staffing coordination; human resources compliance; internal controls; and other duties as assigned by the unit administrator. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to maintain effective working relationships, provide excellent customer service, handle confidential and sensitive information, and work efficiently in an environment with frequently changing priorities.

  • Ability to use calculator, telephone, computer (monitor, keyboard, and mouse), printer, fax, and copier.

  • Use of basic math and a calculator.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse. Hybrid work schedule after a 6-month period, if applicable.
