Career Coach
Learner Success - Columbia, Maryland (Hybrid)

The Career Coach serves as the overall point person for all career services within the Learning Management Department (LMD). This role combines direct student engagement ensuring that students receive the support needed to achieve their career goals while maintaining alignment with departmental objectives. The Career Coach collaborates closely with Learner Success Specialists (LSS) to provide cross-training and integrated support across academic, re-engagement, and career readiness functions.

Responsibilities 
Student Journey Oversight
  • Oversee the career readiness journey for assigned students from program entry to accepting a job, ensuring alignment with their career goals in cybersecurity and related fields.
  • Collaborate with Learner Success Specialists to support students’ transitions through academic and career milestones.
  • Ensure students receive comprehensive guidance on resume development, LinkedIn optimization, and interview preparation, tailored to the needs of cybersecurity professionals.
Career Readiness and Placement
  • Conduct mock interviews and provide tailored feedback to refine students’ job-seeking skills, including scenario-based and behavioral questions common in cybersecurity hiring processes.
  • Guide students in identifying career goals and creating actionable plans for achieving them, with special attention to cybersecurity career pathways.
  • Support Employer Partnerships by connecting students with job opportunities at employer partnership companies. 
Collaboration and Cross-Training
  • Work with LSSs to develop cross-training programs that integrate career services with retention and re-engagement strategies.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions to align departmental goals and practices, including insights specific to the cybersecurity job market.
  • Act as a resource for LSSs, providing career readiness insights and support for learner retention efforts.
Data Management and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes using CRM systems
  • Analyze metrics to identify trends, improve workflows, and optimize career services, especially around cybersecurity job procurement outcomes.
  • Report on individual achievements, highlighting successes and areas for improvement in supporting students pursuing cybersecurity careers.

Experience/ Skills Required
  • Proven experience in career coaching or student advising, in cybersecurity or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, staff, and employers.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems, data analysis tools, and career readiness platforms (e.g., Big Interview).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop cross-departmental collaborations and implement process improvements.
