Job Description 
Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge.  MGCC provides opportunities for the extension of knowledge, skills and personal enrichment in an environment that maintains high academic standards and respect for each individual. Our Office of Student Services collaborates with local school districts to develop articulation agreements, identify dual enrollment opportunities, and promote career development initiatives. We are committed to supporting faculty, counselors, and students through outreach, program marketing, student engagement, and industry partnerships.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated, dynamic Part-Time Career Coach to serve as a vital resource for middle majority students within local high schools. The successful candidate will coordinate career assessments, develop personalized career plans, and act as a liaison with guidance counselors and school staff. This role involves integrating work-based learning experiences, promoting industry certifications, and facilitating seamless pathways from high school to postsecondary education.

Key Responsibilities: Serve as a primary resource for high school students, guidance counselors, and staff. Coordinate career assessments using Wizard and support the development of individualized career plans. Assist students with college placement processes and integrating work-based learning experiences. Promote certifications in Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses aligned with industry pathways. Build and maintain relationships with local business and industry partners. Support the promotion and marketing of programs via website content and outreach materials. Collaborate with the Dual Enrollment Coordinator and senior leadership on program management and reporting. Support student involvement in career fairs, industry conferences, and competitions. Maintain confidentiality and ensure data accuracy in all reporting and documentation.

Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience. Experience administering and interpreting career assessments. Knowledge of Career Pathways programs and Dual Enrollment procedures. Familiarity with MGCC programs and transfer options. Proven experience in career coaching, academic, and career advising. Ability to analyze data and generate reports. Strong command of the English language, both oral and written. Excellent computer skills and ability to adapt to new software quickly. Experience working with underserved or underrepresented populations. Exceptional communication, team-building, and confidentiality skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Additional Considerations  | Experience conducting workshops or facilitating group sessions. Knowledge of best practices in career development services. Experience working in an educational setting.
