Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) has been equipping students, alumni, and employees with the knowledge and experience to transform themselves, the community, and the world for over 55 years. The College’s comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. Non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry are also offered. BRCC is seeking a part time Career Coach to serve as a Blue Ridge Community College advisor for high school students in general and those enrolled in secondary to postsecondary transitional programs. Position will relate career information on postsecondary education and training, help students develop individualized educational career plans, and provide 2/4-year college transfer information and other career options such as military and other post high school options, including career and technical schools. Must work effectively with high school faculty, counselors, and transitional program coordinators. Will assist students and their parents in preparing financial aid applications and community college admissions materials.
The position is located at East Rockingham High School. It is part-time, limited to 1000 hours within the academic calendar time period, with no benefits. There is potential eligibility for educational assistance for BRCC classes and job-related training and/or certifications
Special Assignments | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications | Experience working in an advisory, counseling, coaching or mentoring capacity Work experience in an educational institution and/or related to workforce and career opportunities Outstanding written and verbal communication skills Cultural competency Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, business and industry, the general public and education institutions Skilled in use of personal computers to input data, produce reports, manage records, track participants, and provide services via online platforms as needed
Additional Considerations | Administrative experience with the financial aid process and student information systems, such as PeopleSoft and EAB Navigate Experience planning and delivering large-scale events Bilingual in English/Spanish and/or Arabic
