Job Summary  | The Career Development Specialist will provide specialized career development guidance to assist current students and alumni in developing competencies required to pursue academic, industry, government, and not for profit career opportunities. Develops and delivers specialized interviews, workshops, presentations, and training to support professional career development. Collaborates with college and university faculty and staff as well as local and regional organizations to prepare students for successful transitions from academia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  | Performs career consultations with students and alumni on career readiness, job search strategies, career decision making, professional networking and interviewing strategies. Advises students on major and career choices. Assists students in securing internships, co-ops, and work opportunities to complement their academic programs. Develops and coordinates programs and services to serve a large population of students and alumni. Develops and delivers specialized content for professional career development. Acts as a liaison to university colleges to build rapport with various members of the faculty and staff. Assists with assessing usage and effectiveness of office programs and services through measurable data collection. Analyzes and synthesizes labor and job market trends, career opportunities, and career development theory for College undergraduates and graduates. Attends peer staff meetings, trainings, and occasional off-campus trainings/workshops throughout the year. Participates in external professional associations, as necessary. Performs other duties necessary to support the mission and vision of the College of Engineering and The University of Texas at Arlington. Supervises student staff. Potentially conducts oversight and implementation of special projects and programs related to career engagement and professional development of students and UTA alumni. May serve on committees/task forces for the College and/or university. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree. Two (2) years of experience working in higher education, career development, business, public relations, marketing, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role.

Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree. Experience working in higher education, career development, business, public relations, marketing, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in career planning and development. Experience in developing and conducting workshops/seminars/training sessions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  | Solid verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to develop and conduct curriculum for workshops, class presentations and other group sessions. Knowledge of career counseling theories and contemporary job search techniques. Supervisory experience a plus. Ability to work autonomously and in team environment.

Workplace and Eligibility Conditions  | Standard office conditions, with most of the time spent working at a computer. Professional activities and participation in Student Affairs may include off-site meetings. Repetitive use of a keyboard at workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
