Job Summary/Basic Function
Thank you for your interest in joining the Weber State University Charter Academy team. We are seeking an experienced mentor teacher who is passionate about supporting the development of future educators within a lab school setting.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong expertise in explicit instruction, including clear learning targets, modeling, guided practice, frequent checks for understanding, timely feedback, and structured opportunities for independent practice. This teacher should be skilled in making thinking visible and supporting learners through systematic, intentional instruction.

In this role, you will mentor Weber State University teacher candidates by providing thoughtful, constructive feedback and modeling effective instructional practices. Candidates should be adaptable, personable, and collaborative, with the ability to work effectively with university partners, students, and colleagues in a dynamic environment.

We are also seeking a professional who is willing to share their expertise beyond the classroom by presenting at conferences, engaging in professional learning, and serving as a positive representative of Weber State University Charter Academy and its mission.

The Charter Academy at Weber State University is a model demonstration laboratory center that provides a unique learning experience for elementary students while simultaneously training and developing future educators.

The mentor teacher role includes modeling effective teaching practices in an elementary classroom that immerses students in experiential learning. The mentor teacher partners with the student teachers via coaching cycles to design and implement inquiry-driven and developmentally appropriate curricula, lead small groups, co-teach, conduct research, and reflect on data to improve teaching and learning practices for elementary students.

Additionally, mentor teachers represent WSU in the community by serving as a model and resource of evidence-based practice in elementary education.

The mentor teacher will work under the direction of the Charter Academy Director. The Charter Academy is located on the Weber State University Ogden campus. This may be a temporary position.
Required Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field
  • Educator’s license
  • Cleared Background Screening
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
  • Master’s Degree
  • Minimum 3 years Teaching Experience in an Elementary Classroom
  • Experience Developing Curriculum
  • Instructional Coaching Experience
