About the Role
The Elsevier Solutions Sales organization is on a trajectory of remarkable business growth and transformation, along with new ways of working across leadership in a complex and changing environment. Reporting to the SVP Solutions Sales, the Chief of Staff has the primary function to establish the ecosystem of teams, people, systems, and communications underpinning the growth and change, and to ensure the ecosystem runs smoothly. The objective of the role is to amplify the capacity of the SVP and support the overall effectiveness of the sales team to achieve ambitious growth goals.

The ideal candidate brings an exceptional ability to thrive and lead during change, and to establish trust and work effectively with leaders from all functions. A deep understanding of our business, customers, and strategy is required. The ideal candidate will have proven success in a business management role, with a special focus on executive-level advising and interdepartmental collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Managing the cadence, agenda and run the regular meetings of the Solutions leadership team's regularly scheduled MT meetings; ensure follow-ups on actions & projects initiated.
  • Establishing and continuously improving ways-of-working across teams.
  • Ensuring effective flow of information to support business decisions within the team & across units, and communicate progress on key organizational metrics.
  • Proactively identifying pressing business issues that need immediate attention and ensure prioritization and proper attention.
  • Identify and help close any gaps that may hinder effective collaboration and achievement of goals.
  • Leading on change management within the Solutions sales team; serve as liaison for organization-wide and global initiatives and programs.
  • Serving as the point person for acquisitions, team integrations, and significant new commercial launches that require sales transformation.
  • Managing internal communications and comms strategy; liaison for cross-team communications.
  • Managing internal programs for expertise-sharing and professional development ("the Package", sales innovation series, sales success stories, awards & recognitions)
  • Serving as liaison for sales enablement; guide enablement strategy, cadence, and metrics of sales effectiveness
  • Serving as liaison on initiatives regarding employee well-being, professional development, and job satisfaction; ensuring team members needs are known and considered as the organization develops new policies and implements changes
  • Setting the tone for an agile, inclusive culture in line with Elsevier's operating principles; cultivate embracing of Elsevier vision, culture, and strategy.
  • Serving as a trusted advisor and brainstorming partner to the SVP; provide real-time feedback and input; assist in determining and prioritizing business strategies.
  • Bridging gaps between different levels of the company and keep a finger on the pulse of what is going on; reinforce and communicate the SVP's vision in smaller settings.
  • Supporting the SVP in the preparation of internal communications and executive presentations; maximize leader's effectiveness in priority meetings.
  • Filling in, as needed to extend SVP's time and capacity.
  • Scoping and facilitating early development of new initiatives such as new launches, acquisitions, and integrations; and ad-hoc commercial initiatives.
  • Overseeing initiatives and improvements through successful execution; own key initiatives on the strategy map.
  • Staying up to date with management best practices on business transformation, change management, go-to-market, and team / people development; pro-actively share learnings with SVP and leadership team.
  • Building high-trust working relationships with internal counterparts (such chiefs of staff, directors of strategy, operations, and commercial directors).

Requirements
Have a university degree from accredited institution, academic and research experience a plus. 
Display extensive sales or sales management experience (10 + years) in a business-to-business sales environment.
Have extensive leadership experience (3+ years) leading a regional sales team and/or transformative cross-functional projects.
Have exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization. 
Experience in different solution selling methodologies, sales enablement models, and sales structures; experience with SaaS sales best practices.
Demonstrate commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and persuasive communication skills.
Have proven operational and team leadership skills, including the ability to drive a highly results oriented, inclusive culture in line with Elsevier's operating principles.
Able to navigate and maximize the matrix and work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to maximize results. 
Have excellent analytic capabilities, detail process orientation and process improvement skills.

Primary Location Base Pay Range: New York, NY $142,000 - $263,800. This job is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
