Description of Work  | The Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is one of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s largest and most dynamic divisions, representing approximately one-fifth of the university with operations in Lincoln and communities across Nebraska. As a member of our interdisciplinary Human Resources team, you will play a key role in supporting the faculty, staff, and students who advance IANR’s teaching, research, extension, and engagement mission.

As a Classification & Compensation Specialist, you will: Engage in conversations with hiring managers to understand their staffing needs and build strong working relationships. Conduct job analyses and determine necessary classification actions. Create and revise job descriptions and prepare reclassification requests. Establish appropriate hiring ranges for regular and temporary hires. Evaluate compensation and retention requests to ensure salaries are fair, equitable, and appropriate. Provide leadership and collaboration on projects related to staff classification and compensation across campus. Identify, develop, and implement efficient, innovative, and effective HR programs, services, and initiatives. Ensure UNL’s full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
This position is located on UNL’s East Campus in Lincoln, NE. Following an initial onsite training period of up to six months, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of three (3) days per week worked on campus. Hybrid arrangements are subject to supervisor approval and are determined based on operational needs. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as a Compensation Specialist.

Minimum Required Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree plus four years of related human resources work experience. Additional relevant education or experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis. Experience writing job descriptions. Knowledge of labor laws, principles of employment and human resources practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with hiring managers and other stakeholders. Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint (or similar programs).
