Job Summary 
The College Business Officer provides high-level financial, administrative, and strategic planning support to the Dean to help the college meet key performance metrics. Analyzes complex data sets and helps the dean to understand the data and make data-informed decisions that align with the college’s strategic plan. Provides oversight of financial planning, resource allocation, business operations, and budget forecasting for the college and departments. Work with the Academic Resource Planning team to develop advanced business and financial models, data analyses, and process improvements in support of college goals and growth. Provides leadership to the college and department staff related to the college business functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  | Works with complex data sets, analytics tools, and visualization software to analyze data and help the Dean to understand the data and make data-informed decisions that align with the college’s strategic plan and key performance metrics. This includes leading the college to understand the revenue and cost margins of each academic department, degree program, course, and activity, and identifying opportunities for strategic optimization of resources. Works closely with the Dean and provides oversight to the departments on financial planning, resource allocation, grants and contracts, business operations, enrollment management, endowments and gifts, scholarships, waivers, GTA/GRA appointments, salary, and benefit allocations, compliance reporting, ranking surveys, budget forecasting, and data needs. Works with databases and creates new reports as needed. Develops advanced business and financial models for enrollment and revenue projections, evaluates academic programs and new revenue-generating opportunities, models research productivity, workforce planning, faculty hiring, infrastructure assessments, and space needs, and strategically plans for rapidly evolving opportunities and challenges for the departments and college. Understands the financial condition of the college and its departments, as well as the university, and formulates financially sustainable strategies and contingencies for the college. Continuously assesses and monitors financial performance and forecasts budget to actuals. Represent the college in business and financial meetings and on UTA committees. Serve as a liaison between the college and the AVP- Academic Resource Planning office and the CFO. Work with the Dean, Chairs, AVP, and ARP team to strengthen and improve business processes in the colleges and academic units. Communicate and provide training and guidance to the department chairs and business and administrative staff to ensure they understand the finances of the department and use consistent and effective business practices within the college. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, IT, or a related field. Ten years of relevant experience in higher education or the equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s Degree in a business-related field. Supervisory experience. Experience analyzing complex data sets and creating graphs and visual formats that allow Deans and administrators to quickly understand the analysis. Experience with databases and creating reports. Experience using AI. Strategic planning experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  | Knowledge and experience in the business operations in higher education. Knowledge and experience in forecasting and business modeling in the academic environment. Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills to communicate with internal and external units effectively. Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, and individuals. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively. Demonstrate advanced Excel skills and experience with financial planning tools. A high level of integrity in the use of confidential information. Exceptional organizational and analytical skill, as well as attention to details. Ability to work independently. Ability to work with databases and create reports. Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple competing priorities.
