Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
Reporting to University Communications, the Communications Manager develops and executes the integrated content marketing and public relations strategy for the Division of Administration and Finance and related functions. This includes, among other offices, Business Affairs, Facilities and Vehicle Management, and Parking Services. Since communicating with internal constituencies is a substantial role of this position, projects that support the Division of Human Resources, the Division of IT and other key administrative units also will be required. The Communications Manager is an expert in all things related to content and channel optimization, audience segmentation, analytics and meaningful measurement. The Communications Manager collaborates with colleagues across University Communications and staff within relevant units across campus. The position also assists the University Communications team in activities during emergency situations.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and five years of professional experience in a client facing content strategy, marketing or public relations role.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • The Communications manager has a proven ability to create engaging written content across platforms. 
  • Incumbent demonstrates proficiency in content management software, social media platforms, web analytics and social media monitoring. 
  • Knowledge of AP style is a must along with the ability to be a self-editor. 
  • Must be organized, enterprising and a self-starter. 
  • Project management skills and an ability to meet deadlines are necessary. 
  • Verbal communication skills are a necessity for success in this role along with an ability to work as part of a team. 
  • The Communications Manager helps clients solve problems through strategic thought and planning. 
  • A desire to develop professionally, stay on top of new trends and developments in marketing and public relations and enhance skills is required. 
  • An in-house entrepreneurial spirit is desired.
