Organization's Summary Statement:
This position is located in Saint Mary's County, MD.
The University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland regional
higher education center seeks to hire a Communications
Coordinator. The Coordinator will assist with communications
strategies, tactics, and deliverables to include:
-Researching, writing, and editing newsletter stories
-Updating and maintaining the USMSM website
-Managing USMSM social media accounts
-Assisting with events and visitors/VIPs
-Working with staff and external marketing contractor to develop
recruiting and marketing material
-Assisting exec director with PowerPoints and community
messages
-Other duties as assigned.
In addition to duties supporting the USMSM, this individual will
support messaging efforts with the Clark School of Engineering's
MATRIX lab (on site), and the University System of Maryland.
Under direction of the Executive Director for USMSM, duties will
be prioritized to best suit the needs of the Center.

Physical Demands:
-Almost all of the physical activity required for this position is office-based, primarily working with a computer.
-Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
-At events, there is some need to do set up and take down of light materials such as literature, signs, etc.
-Visual acuity to review materials, designs, publications, etc.
-Ability to maneuver around the campus to attend meetings and other campus events.
-Ability to communicate with internal and external constituents who have inquiries.
-Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
-Ability to work adjustable hours as necessary - some weekends, early mornings, and late evenings will be required.
Preferences:
-Knowledge of Drupal website content management interface,
website copywriting, Adobe Illustrator or -QuarkXPress, Adobe
Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Acrobat
Professional, Microsoft Office Suite, Business Content Manager
orACT! Database management software.
-Good editorial, organization, leadership and management skills
-Experience dealing with the media, and publishing production.
-Newsletter creation (content planning through execution), email
marketing strategy, social media analytics.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Experience: One (1) year of professional administrative or coordinator experience.
• Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service.
• Knowledge of proper protocol in dealing with confidential information.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
• Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
