Job Description:

In collaboration with ASU FIDM leadership, faculty and staff, the Communications Specialist will develop and implement the school's communications strategies, programs, content and materials for a variety of projects that effectively market and disseminate information, and promotes the college's activities to internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, students, prospective students, alumni, donors, and the community. Reports to the Program Manager. Initiatives under the Communications Specialist's purview include management of the ASU FIDM social media channels, including the development and deployment of social media strategies and the curation of content for social media and website use, the monitoring and reporting of social media and website analytics, and assistance with miscellaneous needs related to the capture of audio/video/photo content; written communications efforts.

Position Salary Range:

  • $54,600 - $67,000; depending on experience.

Essential Duties:

  • Plans, develops, and produces creative, high-quality and cost effective communications for college audiences (e.g., faculty, staff, students, donors, prospective students, and the general public) using multiple media and tools (e.g., print, events, press releases, advertisements, Web, displays, and merchandise).

  • Advises the Director and other decision makers on effective marketing communications and public relations matters.

  • Participates in strategic communications planning for school projects and initiatives.

  • Serves as the Project Manager, writer, and editor for alumni and internal college newsletters, brochures, mailers, advertising e-newsletters, web content, and press releases and annual reports.

  • Supports the communication needs of the school's departments and programs; especially as they relate to development, recruitment, and student services activities (including consulting and/or production of communication tools).

  • Interfaces with and conducts regular interviews with faculty, alumni, key stakeholders, project leads/managers, and team members in order to develop stories for publication and market content.

  • Develops and implements guidelines for the use of the school's website, advertising, public digital and print communications.

  • Oversees content for the website; ensures timeliness of all information, and coordinates content updates with the HIDA and ASU FIDM departments, programs, and other units.

  • Works with internal and external vendors and suppliers to coordinate media placement, printing of various types of materials, and direct the development, content, and design of communication for the College's website and programs.

  • Develops and executes social media strategies, including maintenance of social media and website content calendar, research of trends and innovations in digital marketing, and management of interns and student workers for content creation.

  • Attends events to conduct real-time social media promotion.

  • Analyzes social media and Web analytics, and helps generate performance reports.

  • Engages with marketing and communications representatives across ASU academic and business units to source content.

  • Maintains and adheres to the ASU FIDM brand voice and tone.

  • Leads the capture video/audio/photographic content as needed (personally or w/ a vendor).

  • Helps facilitate transcription and storage of digital assets as needed.

Working Environment:

  • This position is located on the ASU Downtown Phoenix Fusion on First campus.

  • Schedule, Monday through Friday with occasional after-hours events.

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.

  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, copier, and telephone.
