Compliance Specialist - Federal Programs Full Description

The Financial Aid Office supports student success by delivering high-quality customer service and ensuring the timely, accurate processing of aid. Serving over 10,000 students—85% of whom receive financial assistance—the office administers more than $40 million annually in aid across UAF’s main and branch campuses.
The Compliance Specialist plays a key role in ensuring institutional compliance with federal regulations. This position provides direct support to students on and off campus, offers guidance on financial aid matters, and helps maintain the integrity and efficiency of office operations.
Success in this position requires a solid understanding of financial aid advising practices, including federal and state regulations, institutional policies, and academic requirements. Proficiency with computerized financial aid systems and the ability to interpret and apply policies consistently is essential.

Key attributes include excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive attitude, strong initiative, and the ability to contribute effectively to a team environment. Public speaking, conflict resolution, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while working under pressure are critical to performing well in this role.

Preferred qualifications include experience with SCT Banner or similar student information systems, financial aid database tools, and reporting functions. Prior work in a college or university setting, along with Direct Loans Certification or NASFAA University training, is also beneficial.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in relevant field, Financial Aid Credentials and three years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Position Details:
This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
