Job Description  | The Computer Consultant I position in Information Technology Services (ITS) provides IT support to users across university departments and divisions. IT support roles include desktop, laptop, mobile device, printer, and application support. Additionally, the role assesses and makes recommendations for procurement of technology equipment for staff. The Computer Consultant I works collaboratively with staff on IT projects as assigned.
Education and Experience  | Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 1-3 years relevant experience in information technologies/computer science as necessary.
Skills and Knowledge  | Specialized knowledge includes a moderate understanding of networking, IT hardware, software and how it interacts with the operating system, printer and printing capabilities, cell technologies as they pertain the support client devices, and mobile computing platforms. Familiarity with commonly used artificial intelligence (AI) tools and platforms, including but not limited to generative AI assistants, AI-powered productivity features within standard enterprise applications (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot), and AI-enhanced support and automation tools.
Responsibilities  | Use computing concepts, documented procedures, and knowledge of SU’s systems to address a wide variety of IT support requests, including but not limited to general hardware and software break/fix and hardware and software installation. Effectively prioritize incoming support tickets, coordinate and schedule with users, and provide cross-unit support as requested by supervisor. Manage hardware inventory of assigned area, plan upgrade lifecycle and replace aging equipment as necessary. Maintain accurate and timely incident logs in approved ticket management system. Write technical and procedural documents as needed for inclusion in knowledge base. Clearly and professionally correspond with peers across the University IT community. Other duties as assigned.
