Posting Context Statement | Recreation and Wellbeing at the University of Idaho provides programs, services, facilities and equipment to enrich the University learning experience. The department fosters a lifelong appreciation and involvement in recreation and wellbeing activities for our students, faculty, staff and the community. Programs include Fitness, Intramural Sports, Outdoor Programs, Sports Clubs, Vandal Spirit Squad and Vandal Health Education.
Position Overview | Reporting to the Director of Outdoor Youth Programs, the Outdoor Program Coordinator, Rental Center oversees day-to-day administrative functions of the Outdoor Rental Center: including hiring, training, scheduling and supervising student employees. The Outdoor Program Coordinator manages and oversees the Rental Center budget, employee payroll, vehicles and is responsible for purchases, and maintenance/repair of $500,000 inventory outdoor equipment. The incumbent will implement risk management procedures and policies for all public rentals and departmental equipment used for Outdoor Program, Climbing Center and Academic Course activities, assist the director of Outdoor and Youth Programs, with other duties within the Outdoor Program by leading a variety of wilderness and outdoor recreational and developmental activities for the university community.
Duties may include: Serve as primary contact with program participants, customer service and office support functions Facilitate communicating between program participants and managerial staff Coordinate arrangements for the program such as meetings, conferences and banquets Collect, compile and summarize program data and managing records Maintain program calendars and schedules Utilize University programs to create, review and approval financial documents and to provide routine financial reports to the program administrator Other duties as assigned

Required Experience | Experience leading in potentially hazardous situations in remote wilderness environments Experience performing repair/maintenance of variety of water, snow, camping and mountaineering outdoor recreational equipment Experience working independently to create programs and services that serve the university community Experience with developing, organizing and implementing administrative projects Experience using computer software and applications for word processing, developing spreadsheets and financial database management

Additional Preferred | Bachelor’s degree in recreation, outdoor education, business or related field of study Experience leading and instructing participants in strenuous wilderness recreational and educational activities with broad based experience in multiple of the following competencies: backpacking, leave no trace, snow sports, glacier travel, avalanche safety, mountain biking, navigation, flatwater and whitewater kayaking, whitewater rafting and climbing Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a university environment within the framework of programs and services, policies and procedures, and the overall mission and goals of an educational institution Experience in outdoor equipment rental or retail shop supervision Ability to train, supervise, develop and coordinate student staff Knowledgeable of adventure recreation industry, risk management procedures, backcountry environmental safety and first aid practices Ability and skill set to tune skis and repair all types of watercrafts, tents, stoves and other outdoor equipment Certification in outdoor related disciplines from industry providers: Swiftwater Rescue Technician, ACA Whitewater Kayak or Raft, Avalanche Educator, Leave No Trace Master Educator, and others Managing calendars and/or scheduling
