Job Description:
The Academic Support Network, a unit in University College, utilizes a peer-to-peer model to provide a suite of services that support student learning. The Writing Center Coordinator, Sr., performs a variety of duties related to the support of the Academic Support Network's (ASN) Writing Center and Graduate Writing Center and works from the Downtown Phoenix campus. This position works collaboratively with a cross-campus workgroup and campus-specific team to provide direct supervision to assigned student staff, including but not limited to hiring student staff, training creation and delivery, evaluating performance, and managing schedules. This position may supervise assigned Program Aide(s) as needed for the program. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting in the deployment of ASN's Online Study Hub, which includes supporting student staff participation in ASN's Online Study Hub platform. As a supervisor of student staff, the Coordinator, Sr. will participate in Work+ training and mentor ASN's student staff (also called working learners). The Coordinator, Sr. will be under the direct supervision of the ASN Program Manager for the Writing Center and Graduate Writing Center. 

Position Salary Range:  $47,500 annually
Essential Duties:
  • Work in a shared supervision model with ASN professional staff to manage the supervision and day-to-day functions of the Writing Center and Graduate Writing Center Programs, which include but are not limited to:
    • Recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and creating schedules for student staff, including tutors and desk aides
    • Helping to resolve issues amongst student staff and/or users
    • Assisting with the content development, scheduling, and presentation of student staff training, meetings, and workshops
    • Monitoring and assessing staff through one-on-one meetings and providing staff with direction and strategies on how to become more effective in their position
    • Monitoring student staff engagement in ASN's Online Study Hub, including supporting student staff in responding to users and developing resources
    • Assisting with the coordination of marketing events to promote services
  • Support the immediate workgroup, ASN's various program areas, and University College 
    • Take the lead in the curriculum development and implementation for the Success in Graduate Writing and Dissertation Writing summer camps.
    • Collaborate with the Writing Center and Graduate Writing Center Program Manager to design, implement, and deliver programming and initiatives, such as the Graduate Writing Workshop Series.
    • Participate in the design process to design services to support learners at scale using design thinking, analytics, automation, and intelligent systems.
    • Collaborate with the area Program Manager to complete service-level work, including supporting current initiatives, assigned grant work, report writing, data analysis, and explorations of AI use in staff work and tutoring
    • Work collaboratively in a campus-specific team to provide support for the unit's delivery of all services
    • Work with the ASN writing team across campuses
    • Work with ASN across campuses in a shared supervision model
    • Serve on department committee and represent ASU and ASN at events as needed
    • Travel campuses as needed to support broader unit efforts 
  • Engage with the broader ASU community
    • Design and facilitate workshops for faculty, staff, and student audiences
    • Develop partnerships with faculty and university staff to promote ASN services and coordinate student support. 
  • Participate in professional development to stay current with trends and promising practices as they relate to the position.
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:
  • Evidence of a degree in English or any other degree program relevant to the area of responsibilities
  • Experience working with different genres of writing
  • Experience tutoring, teaching, or coordinating a writing center
  • Experience in developing and giving presentations
  • Supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience integrating technology, including AI, into educational programs to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively on a team

Working Environment:
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting, subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse;
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
