Job Description:
Arizona State University (ASU), recognized as the nation's most innovative university, is launching a student-run Security Operations Center (SOC) within Enterprise Technology (ET). We are seeking an inaugural Student SOC Coordinator to build, lead, and operationalize this program from the ground up.
This role offers a unique opportunity to blend operational cybersecurity leadership with mentorship and workforce development. The coordinator will lead the end-to-end coordination of a student SOC program, aligning schedules, training, and operations across students, SOC staff, and operational stakeholders. These students will contribute to security operations in close collaboration with ET's full-time SOC team, gaining hands-on experience while adding real value to the enterprise.

The successful candidate will bring experience building project initiatives from the ground up, paired with strong coordination and project management skills and a passion for organizing people, processes, and learning experiences to support student development in a dynamic cybersecurity environment. They will be self-motivated, resilient, and excited to solve the tactical and operational challenges of guiding student analysts in a high-stakes environment. This position will report to the Executive Director within ET Cybersecurity Core and will work closely with ASU's full-time SOC analysts.

As with all members of the Enterprise Technology team, this role carries core responsibilities, including fostering a sense of belonging and cultivating a culture that is relational, visionary, and empowering. Salary Range: $61,400 - $65,000; Depends on Experience
Essential Duties:
Program & Project Management
  • Design, launch, and operationalize a student-run Security Operations Center (SOC) program from inception.
  • Develop program structure, workflows, documentation, and success metrics to support both operational needs and student learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate timelines, deliverables, and dependencies across multiple stakeholders, including full-time SOC staff, leadership, and external partners.
  • Continuously assess and improve program processes to enhance efficiency, clarity, and impact.
Student Workforce Coordination
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise student employees in paid cybersecurity roles.
  • Manage student schedules, coverage models, assignments, and time commitments in alignment with academic calendars and operational needs.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, task prioritization, and performance feedback to student analysts.
  • Foster accountability, professionalism, and readiness for future careers.
Curriculum & Training Development
  • Design and maintain training materials, onboarding content, and curriculum that translate classroom concepts into real-world operational practice.
  • Balance structured learning with hands-on experience, adapting content to varying student skill levels.
  • Coordinate training delivery in collaboration with SOC staff and other partners.
Operational Coordination
  • Oversee SOC activities performed by students, ensuring tasks are appropriately scoped, documented, and escalated when needed.
  • Collaborate closely with full-time SOC analysts to align procedures, playbooks, and escalation paths.
  • Serve as the primary coordination point between student analysts and professional SOC staff.
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Track and report on program performance, student outcomes, and operational impact for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Communicate program progress, risks, and needs clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Participate in Enterprise Technology (ET) and ASU events, initiatives, and cross-functional collaborations.
Culture & Leadership
  • Model empathy, professionalism, and strong organizational values.
  • Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit's efficiency and overall performance.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including documentation, planning, and process improvement.

Work Environment:
