Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary | The Undergraduate Student Peer Academic Advisor will support the CoPA Academic Advisor. They will follow and enforce all Chapman University and Academic Advising office policies, principles and guidelines when working with undergraduate students in CoPA. They will assist the CoPA Academic Advisor with undergraduate student meetings and communication.
Responsibilities | Supports academic advisors with promptly answering undergraduate student questions via email daily and during scheduled appointments several times a week. Communicates academic policies and provides guidance. Understands and communicates to undergraduate students the implications of the program plan and degree progress, and particularly the impact of changing academic plans to these goals. Understands, interprets, and enforces University policies while exploring academic and professional options. Advises Dance, Music, and Theatre students and communicates relevant information from the College. Works closely with the academic advisor for any additional support for all students in CoPA. Aids in retention of undergraduate students from first-year to graduation; regularly advise undergraduate students on academic policies and procedures, scheduling, major coursework four-year plans, degree requirements, academic possibilities (majors, minors, and choosing appropriate electives); Supports the undergraduate student’s transitions into college. Serves as an agent of referral for undergraduate students providing them with information on accessing University resources and campus agencies to help with personal problems and/or crisis management as necessary. Manages students during drop-in hours and answers general questions during peak times. Works with academic advisors to keep student communications efficiently organized and quickly answered. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications | Previous Chapman University student employee , worked directly with undergraduate students.
Desired Qualifications | A Chapman student in the College of Performing Arts (CoPA).
