Copy Editor [Temporary] Full Description

Copy Editor [Temporary]

Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and Wolfram Language, is seeking a Copy Editor with exceptional editing skills to join its Document Quality Assurance department. The Copy Editor will be responsible for proofreading and copyediting new book content for the Wolfram eTextbook series, which teaches core academic concepts through interactive examples using Wolfram Language.

This position requires attention to detail and a firm grasp of the English language, in-depth knowledge of English grammar and prior experience editing or proofreading book-length content. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with various formats (print, PDF, Kindle) and will have an enthusiasm for the rigor and precision of scientific academic writing.

Responsibilities
  • Proofreading and copyediting eTextbook content from initial draft through the production workflow
  • Learning to use internal publishing tools to make edits and queries directly
  • Using internal tracking systems to log time and interact with the publishing team
  • Becoming familiar with in-house style guide
  • Attending biweekly department meetings and being available for training sessions

Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong performance on the proofreading exam
  • Strong organizational and analytic skills
  • Ability to interact with managers and cross-functional teams

Preferred qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Experience with Jira or Wolfram Notebooks

Salary (for eligible candidates residing in the United States): The pay rate for this position is between $15.00 and $16.00 per hour or your location's minimum wage, whichever is greater.
Benefits (for eligible candidates residing in the United States): Medical, vision and dental insurance with partial employer contributions.
