Job Description
Learning and Development exists to enable people and organizations to be more equipped to reach their goals, thrive and innovate. We’re looking for someone who can help us meet increasing demands for targeted training and learning programs that accelerate the growth of our business and our employees and continue to enrich our culture. In this role, you’ll be interacting with stakeholders across the company to understand their learning needs and then using your L&D expertise to recommend, design and implement learning solutions that really work, are highly valued and move us forward.

This is a high impact, enterprise level L&D role designed to address real business demand over the next 24–36 months. The person in this role will lead visible, meaningful work across compliance, capability building, and emerging learning technologies—creating programs, systems, and tools that will endure well beyond the assignment.

You’ll be working on:
  • Designing enterprise-wide learning solutions with measurable impact.
  • Partnering with leaders to solve performance problems, not just build courses.
  • Using Generative AI tools to modernize learning design and delivery.
  • Leading large-scale compliance and regulatory training in a complex industry.
  • Shaping learning approaches during a period of organizational change.

This role is a great match if…
  • You enjoy enterprise‑level, cross‑functional L&D work
  • You like variety—from compliance to leadership to systems
  • You’re comfortable influencing without authority
  • You want to help an organization thoughtfully integrate AI into learning

We are known for our customer focus, creativity, and commitment to developing our employees and leaders.  This is an exciting time for Avista, and a chance for you to make a positive and lasting difference via Learning and Development for our employees, our organization and the communities we serve.

Requirements
  • 5+ years' experience in learning development and training design, development, and delivery in a complex industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education or related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in instructional design, performance consulting and deep understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Effective and flexible communication skills with a variety of audiences including collaboration, facilitation, influencing, negotiating, resolving conflicts and building consensus.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to execute on multiple assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with a Learning Management System and supporting end users required. LMS system configuration experience preferred.
  • Computer skills including MS Office Suite and proficiency with authoring tools/design software (Articulate 360 and HTML preferred).
  • Related master’s degree or advanced training/certifications preferred.
  • Understanding of utility operations preferred.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver a variety of types of learning and development initiatives and programs utilizing multiple approaches, including instructor led, virtual, and blended learning methods. Experience with emerging learning technologies a plus.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
