Must be in good academic standing.

Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher appropriate to the area of service. Candidates must be accepted into the MFA in Creative Writing Graduate Program.

Be registered full-time for the respective semester (nine semester credit hours during the fall semester, nine semester credit hours during the spring semester, six semester credit hours during the summer session or be performing supervised research with a UTRGV faculty member) or be registered in the required number of semester credit hours to fulfill the only remaining requirements on the degree plan.

Graduate Teaching Assistant
Duties include, but are not limited to, providing timely written and evaluative feedback on student work; monitoring/proctoring course activities; co-leading discussion and/or workshop sessions with the guidance of the professor; providing office hour assistance to students; and performing clerical and other tasks associated with course instruction and department activities. Duties also include weekly meetings with the supervisor(s)/teaching mentor(s). GTA’s will be required to take a related pedagogy course listed in the MFA degree plan or as approved by the department chair and complete all required trainings for UTRGV employment, including Brightspace trainings.

Scope of Duties:

The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program is seeking MFA students for our Graduate Teaching Assistantship program. The Graduate Teaching Assistant will work closely with faculty members in the Department of Creative Writing and gain experience by assisting with undergraduate courses.
