Job Summary
The Environmental Studies and Science Program at Oberlin College invites applications for the position of Assistant Project Manager for the Environmental and Community Dashboard project. This is a full-time, one-year, non-continuing grant-supported position with the potential for renewal.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will assist in all aspects of managing, developing, and assessing ongoing Environmental and Community Dashboard projects (ECD) in the City of Oberlin, in the MidTown neighborhood of Cleveland, at Great Lakes Science Center, and at Oberlin College. ECD is novel communication technology and content designed to promote positive social, economic and environmental development that enhances sustainability, community connection and climate resilience. Essential Job Functions
Specific responsibilities include:

  • Project management and coordination that ensure continuous progress on all components of ECD projects. This includes developing, updating, and executing a range of well-defined tasks necessary to achieve project goals.
  • Coordinating with community partners in Oberlin and Cleveland to promote and expand community implementations and to achieve community goals.
  • Serving as the point person for further development of content for the “Community Voices” component of ECD.
  • Working closely with educators and administrators to develop, implement, organize, and promote educational materials that use ECD.
  • Representing, presenting and promoting ECD in various contexts to organizations and communities that might replicate all or part of ECD.
  • Developing content for and managing ECD digital signage, websites and other web-embeddable content.
  • Directly managing Oberlin undergraduates who work on all aspects of the ED project, including those assisting with digital signage and with content development. This includes supervising paid student assistants and students engaged in research and development projects, as well as helping to mentor undergraduates taking Oberlin’s “Practicum in Environmental Communication” course.
  • Setting agendas for, facilitating and keeping detailed notes on meetings with community partners and student workers.
  • Assisting a research team in designing, implementing, analyzing, and reporting on experiments associated with the project.

Required Qualifications
We seek an individual with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. The hire must have strong and demonstrated organization and project management skills, strong communications skills (verbal, writing, and visual presentation), ability to handle a high level of responsibility, demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a collaborative team, and the ability to communicate effectively and enthusiastically with a broad range of project stakeholders, including children and youth, city officials, members of the business community, low-income communities, and civic and political leaders. This is an in-person position that will require time in both Oberlin and Cleveland.
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include experience with project management, education, curriculum development, organizing for environmental and/or social justice causes, website management, photography and graphic design, advanced computer skills, and experience troubleshooting hardware and software.
