Job Summary
College of Science | Purdue University | West Lafayette, Indiana
 
The College of Science is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Data Analyst to support data-informed decision making across the college. This role serves as a professional contributor, partnering with faculty, staff, and leadership to transform complex information into meaningful insights that support academic, operational, and strategic objectives.
 
In this position, you will work with faculty, student, and institutional data, developing reports, dashboards, and analytical tools that help stakeholders better understand trends, opportunities, and outcomes. You will also play a key role in supporting the college's research information management system, Elements, by providing training, guidance, and customer support to users across the organization.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of data, technology, and higher education while contributing to initiatives that directly support teaching, research, and student success.
 
What You'll Do
  • Extract, manipulate, validate, analyze, and assess faculty, student, and institutional data from a variety of sources
  • Develop reports, dashboards, visualizations, and analytical tools that support operational and strategic decision making
  • Identify trends, patterns, and data gaps and provide actionable insights to stakeholders
  • Respond to information requests from faculty, staff, leadership, and external partners
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency across reporting and analysis efforts
  • Serve as the Customer Success Manager for the Elements platform, providing user support, troubleshooting, training, and guidance
  • Develop and maintain documentation and training resources for system users
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Data Manager on data-driven projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide guidance and support to student data assistants working on departmental projects
  • Build positive working relationships with stakeholders across the College of Science and Purdue University

What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Business, Behavioral and Social Sciences, or closely related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in data or computer-related field, business operations, behavioral or social sciences, education, or related experience
 
Skills Required:
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide analysis and interpretation of data
  • Ability to:
    • communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences including the ability to present findings and maintain process documentation
    • maintain confidentiality with sensitive data
    • prioritize and work independently while managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail and quality
  • Knowledge of:
    • relational databases, including query writing and/or reporting tools (Cognos and Python preferred)
    • data visualization tools (Tableau preferred)

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $57,7150 to 67,899 annually commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. The final salary offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including equity, available budget, educational background, and relevant experience.
