ââColumbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) provides global leadership in scientific research, health and medical education, âand patient care. âUnder the direction of Dr. Xiao Xu, Herbert and Florence Irving Associate Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, and reporting to the Clinical Research Manager for Gynecologic Oncology, the Data Analyst will support an NIH-funded research study and other assigned research projects in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. The analyst will analyze large healthcare databases using statistical software and assist with the collection of questionnaire, interview and focus group data. Â
âWe seek a Data Analyst with advanced statistical analysis skills and experience. Potential applicants will have completed at least a bachelorâs degree (a masterâs degree referred) in a highly quantitative field, such as statistics/biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, data science, or applied mathematics, and are interested in applying their skills to health services research. The Data Analyst will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, clinical researchers, epidemiologists, and statisticians. Hence the ability to work well in teams and communicate effectively are paramount.
Responsibilities:Â Â Â Â
Data Analysis ResponsibilitiesÂ
Conduct data analyses for an NIH-funded study focused on improving hormone therapy use in patients with premature or early menopause, including managing large healthcare databases and performing rigorous analysis using advanced analytical and programming methods.Â
Maintain study datasets and documentation to ensure data quality and integrity, including developing/updating data dictionaries, variable specifications, and analytical files; and performing data cleaning, validation checks, reconciliation across sources, and version control.Â
Summarize, organize, and interpret study findings, including producing analysis outputs such as results tables, figures, listings, and dashboards; and clearly communicate findings to investigators and stakeholders to inform study decisions and reporting.Â
Support scientific dissemination, including assisting with the preparation of abstracts, posters, scientific reports, and manuscripts for publication; contributing to the methods/results write-up; and ensuring reproducibility of analyses through well-documented codes and analytic files.Â
Conduct data management, statistical analyses, and programming for additional studies, including data collection support, analytic planning, dataset construction, execution of analyses, and results summary/reporting.Â
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Health Services Research Data Collection and Analysis ResponsibilitiesÂ
Perform data collection needed for health services research projects, including medical chart abstraction; participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, and follow-up; and administering questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups.Â
Maintain accurate and complete data collection records and research files. Â
Conduct analysis of qualitative interview and focus group data, in addition to quantitative data analysis.Â
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications:Â
Bachelorâs degree in statistics/biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, data science, applied mathematics, or a related field, with at least 3 years of relevant experience.Â
Demonstrated proficiency in statistical programming, such as SAS, R, Stata, and/or Python.Â
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to apply statistical methods to complex datasets.Â
Ability to work independently, demonstrating sound judgment, initiative, and critical thinking with minimal supervision.Â
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings clearly to diverse audiences.Â
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Â
Collaborative and adaptable, with the ability to work effectively, positively, and constructively as a team member.Â
Ability and willingness to learn new methods and programs.Â
Capacity to work successfully in a deadline driven, multitasking environment.Â
Preferred Qualifications:Â
Masterâs degree in a relevant field with at least 3 years of experience in data analysis, ideally in an academic or research setting.Â
Experience working with healthcare, clinical, or administrative datasets.Â
Experience applying advanced analytical techniques, including machine learning methods for data analysis.Â
Experience with survey research and mixed-methods research, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches.Â
Bi-lingual (English and Spanish).Â
