Database Administrator Full Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented SQL Database Administrator to support the maintenance, performance, and security of our SQL Server databases. This role is ideal for candidates looking to grow their career in database administration while working with DBA and infrastructure teams.

This is a hybrid role that requires 3 days a week onsite in our Newton, MA office.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of SQL Server instances.

  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues of limited complexity.

  • Perform routine backups and restores; ensure data integrity and availability.

  • Support database deployments, updates, and patching processes.

  • Respond to support tickets and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner.

  • Help manage user access and security roles within SQL Server.

  • Document database procedures, configurations, and changes.

  • Collaborate with developers and system administrators to optimize queries and database design.

  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.

  • Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.

  • Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.

  • Enforce database administration and user standards and procedures.

  • Audit, modify, and amend data in systems using SQL commands, hand-editing, and bulk import.

  • Implement and release database changes according to agreed timescales and costs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Vocational or technical education

  • 1-3 years of experience in database administration

  • Exposure to Windows Server environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 5 years experience in database administration

  • Work with off-shore teams

  • Help lead new initiatives

  • Forward thinking of new technologies

  • Basic understanding of SQL Server architecture

  • Familiarity with backup/restore procedures and SQL database monitoring tools.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and willingness to learn.

  • Knowledge of PowerShell or other scripting languages is a bonus.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Azure SQL/MI) is a bonus.

The annual salary for this position is between $69,000 - $105,000. The pay range listed here is what Bright Horizons in good faith anticipates offering for this job opening. Actual compensation offers within this range will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education and training, certifications, geography, and other relevant business or organizational factors.
