We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented SQL Database Administrator II to support the maintenance, performance, and security of our SQL Server databases. This is a hybrid role that requires 3 days a week onsite in our Newton, MA office.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Administers and maintains SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments.

  • Installs, configures, and upgrades SQL Server instances according to best practices and organizational standards.

  • Monitors database performance and proactively identifies, analyzes, and resolves performance bottlenecks.

  • Implements, manages, and validates backup, restore, and recovery procedures to ensure data availability.

  • Supports database deployments, schema changes, and version upgrades with minimal disruption.

  • Manages database security by creating and maintaining user accounts, roles, permissions, and auditing access.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex database issues and production incidents; escalates when appropriate.

  • Works closely with developers to review queries, indexes, and database design for performance and scalability.

  • Performs capacity planning and storage management to support current and future growth.

  • Maintains and updates database documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

  • Assists in disaster recovery planning, testing, and failover exercises.

  • Provides guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators and support staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant experience in database administration

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. 3 or more years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Exposure to Windows Server environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of SQL Server architecture

  • Familiarity with backup/restore procedures and SQL database monitoring tools.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Exposure to Active Directory.

  • Excellent communication and willingness to learn.

  • Knowledge of PowerShell or other scripting languages is a bonus.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Azure SQL/MI) is a bonus.

The annual salary for this position is between $88,000 - $120,000. The pay range listed here is what Bright Horizons in good faith anticipates offering for this job opening. Actual compensation offers within this range will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education and training, certifications, geography, and other relevant business or organizational factors.
