Job Description:
The School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is seeking a highly self-motivated and dynamic individual for the position of Department Human Resources Manager to be responsible for strategic leadership, oversight and management of payroll processes, staff compensation and classification, and staff and student recruitment and hiring in a fast paced and complex School.
The successful applicant will maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and central Human Resource services as well as handle confidential and sensitive information, use advanced software applications and systems as it applies to the position, be skilled in policy and procedures, communicating and coordinating, and participating and encouraging support of the Fulton Schools values.

Position Salary Range:
$70,000-$85,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:
The Department Human Resources Manager is an administrative position that develops, executes and supervises the work activities of an HR team responsible for essential personnel processes for all SSEBE employment categories. This would include assigning, prioritizing and oversight/coordination of major payroll processes including academic and summer renewals for faculty, staff and students. 

Additionally, this role is responsible for the rollout of strategic Human Resources initiatives in line with the overall goals of the Fulton Schools of Engineering.

Administrative
  • Work alongside managers and leadership within the school to coach and guide employee development and engagement.
  • Ability to communicate with various stakeholders and levels of management.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving and meeting the needs of SSEBE.
  • Mentor, guide, and develop team members.
  • Nurture a positive working environment.

Compensation and Classification
  • Manages all staff job classifications, salary structure and compensation including the preparation of job postings and developmental/promotion adjustments.
  • Reviews, analyzes and makes recommendations regarding staff, student and year to year and postdoctoral positions to administration for salary increases, using data tools.
  • Oversees the Merit and Notices of Appointment renewal processes.

Recruitment and Hiring
  • Coordinates all instructional support related student and graduate student hiring with Program chairs. This includes oversight of research assistant/associate and teaching assistant/associate (RA/TA) offer letters, G-portal implementation and graduate renewals.
  • Coordinates and manages staff personnel searches including postings and determination of desired qualifications, salary placement, applicant evaluations and hiring; utilizes Workday for processing and reporting.
  • Oversees the Visa process at the school level.

Payroll
  • Managing the offer letter process for hiring and renewals of all classifications of SSEBE employees.
  • Coordinates summer payroll and other faculty actions requiring grant oversight with the Research Advancement team.
  • Oversees and manages the payroll reconciliation processes and Docuware electronic filing.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of human resources practices, regulations and standards.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and prioritizing work of a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of streamlining existing processes and creating new innovative human resource strategies within the school.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the unit.
  • Experience in HR data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience using Workday, Docusign etc.
  • Experience in higher education

Working Environment:
Activities are performed primarily in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work; bending, stopping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. This position receives regular review of objectives.
