Job Description
KIPP Texas Public Schools is seeking a Deputy Chief, Curriculum and Instruction, an exciting opportunity for systems-level leaders with a deep knowledge of curriculum, standards, and instruction to play a critical role as the primary driver of curriculum and assessment across our network. The Deputy Chief will provide strategic leadership, long-term vision, and direction for a multi-disciplinary team leading PK-12 curriculum adoption, implementation, development, and evaluation. The Deputy Chief Curriculum and Instruction is a lead learner that works to further the mission of KIPP Texas by ensuring all students have access to the rigorous, college preparatory curriculum they need to learn to be prepared to matriculate to the college and/or career option of their choice. This position reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer and will collaborate closely with colleagues within  Academics, Finance, Operations, Strategy, and School Management as well as with other regional and school shareholders to ensure all schools across the KIPP TX network have the resources and support to deliver on KIPP Texas academic  goals and priorities. Serving as a thought partner, problem solver, and change agent to internal and external stakeholders with steadfast commitment to action, this leader will  oversee our network’s curriculum and instructional services, federal programs, career and technical education services, advanced placement courses, assessment, research and evaluation services. The Deputy Chief, Curriculum and Instruction ensures that the network/school education objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence. 

As the Deputy Chief, Curriculum and Instruction, you will be accountable to:
Student Academic Outcomes
  • 100% of KTX Schools achieve an A or B rating 
  • 90% of K-2 students reading on grade level
  • KTX achieves 90/60/30 on Reading and Math STAAR
  • 60% of seniors graduate having scored a 3+ on at least an AP
  • 40% of 12th grade students score 21+ on the ACT or 1010+ on SAT
Compliance Outcomes
  • Guarantee all curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments align with TEKS, HB3 plans, ESSA, and other state/federal requirements;
  • Ensure instructional programming and curriculum meet legal and programmatic requirements for emergent bilingual, and SPED, with documentation to support TEA audits and monitoring;
  • Lead compliance with state testing requirements, instructional materials allotment, and mandated submissions (e.g., HB3 early literacy/math plans), ensuring accurate and timely reporting, 
  • Establish systems to monitor curriculum implementation, professional learning, and data use so that all instructional programs are audit-ready and demonstrate accountability for student outcomes.
Division Leadership Health
  • Maintain 100% financial sustainability by ending the year at or below the approved Curriculum and Instruction budget while maximizing resource allocation for student outcomes;
  • Achieve ≥80% participation rate and ≥80% positivity score on the Two Step Culture Survey;.
  • Maintain an average rating of ≥3 on targeted KIPP Texas Leadership Competencies.

Key Responsibilities
Academic Program Strategy
  • Develop vision with clear goals and action plans for curriculum, assessment and instruction, XX federal programs, career and technical education services, and advanced placement courses that prepares students for college and/or a career of choice.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor statewide curriculum, instruction, and assessment strategies in alignment with state frameworks and standards, driving equitable access and transformational student outcomes.
  • Lead the adoption, review, and evaluation of curriculum across PK-12 and support school, regional, and state leadership teams to implement instructional adjustments and accelerate student growth.
  • Design and oversee inclusive instructional models for career and technical education and advanced placement.
  • Manage the creation, revision and vetting of curriculum materials and assessments that align to and then exceeds the expectations of state standards and meets the preparation bar for Advanced Placement (AP) and ACT Exam success in high school
  • Supervise the creation and analysis of all state and regional assessments, including the creation of an annual state-wide assessment calendar
  • Coordinate and maintain research-based instructional programs and ensure high-quality teaching and learning strategies for all students.
  • Produce high-quality annual and quarterly reports that clearly communicate progress toward all program goals and targets.
Instructional Leadership
  • Work with departmental and regional teams to build instructional leadership capacity of School Leaders and school leadership teams with particular focus on strong curriculum implementation and instructional frameworks.
  • Establish and manage systems for timely and accurate completion of all required documentation related to state and federal deadlines, policy and legal expectations
  • Consistently analyze data from assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and lead the team in making the appropriate adjustments
  • Create processes and gather insights to address immediate program needs while anticipating future-facing priorities across Curriculum and Instruction departments.
  • Identify, plan, and lead professional learning for educators and leaders focused on curriculum tools and resources and research based instructional best practices 
  • Ensure compliance with, and approve reports for, all state, federal, and local agencies.
Team Leadership
  • Manage, develop, and lead multiple teams to ensure best in class curriculum and instruction for students.
  • Develop, coach, and evaluate departmental Managing Directors, setting and monitoring progress toward statewide strategic priorities, benchmarks, and growth goals.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, and development of curriculum and instruction departments staff.
  • Routinely evaluate the performance of the KIPP Texas Curriculum and Instruction programs to ensure objectives are met and continuously improved.
Interdivision/Departmental Communication
  • Ability to inspire, inform, and collaborate across the organization to ensure the instructional needs of our most at risk KIPPsters are supported and met.  
  • This leader needs to build deep and trustful relationships in the organization in service of their departmental goals.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally and with external agencies to ensure alignment in staffing, curriculum, enrollment, school selection, and communication strategies that support all students' success.
  • Partner with Team Finance to develop and manage program budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources to maximize student outcomes and maintain expenditure control.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Five (5) years of progressive systems-level leadership experience required 
  • 3-5 years of school leadership experience with demonstrated results required
  • Expertise in TX state standards, standards based curriculum, and assessments.
  • Proven success in leading district-wide efforts to transform curriculum and instruction for students in urban setting preferred
