Job Description:

NOTE: This role is based in NYC and requires a minimum of three days a week in the SoHo, NY office.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Digital Product Owner is a key role responsible for the development of digital products in the Education Solutions division.
The Digital Product Owner will be responsible for defining feature priorities and development timelines and will work cross functionally with UX Design, Engineering, QA, Editorial, Research, Sales and Marketing. The Digital Product Owner will partner with both internal and external resources to establish development goals and will work with co-design partners to map ideal product solutions and user experiences for all user types.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drive Product or Platform Component strategy and vision. Work with product leadership, marketing, and design/user research to define business strategy/customer needs and translate them into features and enhancements.
  • Deliver high-quality products, features, enhancements, and/or components, on schedule, that meet customer needs.
  • Manage Product or Platform Component Roadmap. Establish release targets for all features and enhancements, determine high-integrity commitments, and create and prioritize the team backlog including field and customer requests. Monitor milestones and release dates while considering stakeholder interests.
  • Lead Agile development team as Product Owner by establishing the product or platform component vision, lead quarterly planning meetings, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint retrospectives, and sprint reviews. Drive outcomes over output by working with the team to determine and prioritize sprint goals. Participate in all agile ceremonies, and provide strong leadership and direction to development team so that they can execute on the product or platform component roadmap
  • Write Requirements. Define and document product or platform component requirements. Lead writing for sprint goals, stories, acceptance criteria, and definitions of done for features/stories in collaboration with the team.
  • Work with Internal Stakeholders. Partner with marketing, research, editorial, legal, customer success, and other key stakeholders to determine product/component definition and requirements that meet customer needs.
  • Practice Effective Risk Mitigation. Prioritize and make trade-offs to ensure delivery of product/components on time and within budget, while maintaining educational integrity of products.
  • Proactively communicate to internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including but not limited to:
    • Product development status and issue escalation to executive team
    • Project scope changes, prioritization reasoning, and decisions affecting product delivery
  • Collaborate with other Education Solutions programs and teams to align on product vision, process and team practices, as well as managing dependencies with other Education Solutions teams
  • Strong knowledge and desire for continued learning in the areas of prek-12 ed tech market and landscape as well as Universal Design for Learning and WCAG accessibility to inform best practice product vision and direction.

Qualifications

HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3-5+ years of work experience in the K-12 educational market
  • Past experience in a Product Owner / business-analyst type of role
  • Expertise in utilizing a Design Thinking approach to product development
  • Experience in working within an agile/scrum development process
  • Experience in driving strategy and ensuring a cohesive customer experience across multiple digital programs and/or platforms
  • Experienced at creating and maintaining all process relevant documentation: requirements documents, process flows, user stories, release notes
  • Demonstrated success with large-scale complex Project Management
  • Ability to build strong collaborative internal and external relationships
  • Exceptional verbal, written and communication skills
  • Exceptional presentation skills
Additional Considerations:
  • Experience working on data requirements, capture, aggregation, and reporting
  • Experience identifying and defining key performance metrics from assessments and learning activities
  • Ability to craft compelling data stories and translate insights for stakeholders
  • Knowledge of data interoperability standards (e.g., Caliper, QTI)
  • Understanding of and practical experience with data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., COPPA, FERPA)
