Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | The Director of Student Advising and Career Development will provide students with resources and a supportive community of advisors, mentors, and staff to promote their development and transition from medical school to residency training. They will empower and guide students in setting and advancing their achievement of effective, individual-driven career and professional goals. They will procure and sustain a dedicated, qualified cadre of advisor and mentor resources equipped to enable effective student career decisions, and maintain resources necessary to advise, coach, and support students in making choices regarding their medical specialty areas, residencies, and careers, as well as guiding their professional interests and goals. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to policies, procedures and regulations.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience | Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 4 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in a job-related field and 4 or more years of experience in medical student affairs, career advising, academic advising, or a related educational leadership role or other job-related experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Detail-oriented, with the ability to work with various stakeholders to achieve a desired result.
Self-motivated and able to work independently and carefully manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with short deadlines in a high-volume environment. Interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Ability to analyze data to produce reports and for assessment purposes. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with key employers, visitors, professional contacts, faculty, staff, and administration. Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office and web-based software. Required to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.

Job Duty | Career Advising & Student Support- Leads and delivers comprehensive career advising services which support students in identifying professional goals, specialty interests, and residency pathways.- Advises students on the residency application and match process, including timelines, policies, application materials, interviews, and rank list development.- Counsels students on specialty competitiveness, career options (including non-traditional pathways), and individualized strategies aligned with personal circumstances and institutional and national trends.- Provides targeted support to students facing academic, professional, or personal circumstances that may impact career outcomes, including advising unmatched students on revised short- and long-term plans.
