Job Description
About The Position 
KIPP Foundation’s Development department is responsible for advancing organizational strategy through revenue generation and strategic partnerships and drives the support to fuel KIPP’s work. The team is a tight-knit, energetic, and passionate group that ensures the KIPP Foundation can provide current and future KIPP schools with the programmatic support and resources necessary to help students in underserved communities get to and through college. 

The Director of Development Operations and Strategy – NYC is a key leadership role within the Development Department. The main responsibilities include leading strategic initiatives and driving operational efficiency to achieve fundraising success.  This role reports to the Vice President, Regional Development and will work to directly contribute to KIPP NYC’s financial health and long-term impact. The Director will help ensure that the department meets its financial/non-financial goals by ensuring the quality and integrity of the data in our CRM database (Salesforce) and generating analytics to drive impact and optimize departmental strategy, operations and growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strategic planning, program management and systems development.  

Additional key duties and responsibilities of the Director of Development Operations and Strategy include but may not be limited to 1) leading the creation of and implementation of the Department’s overall strategic and annual operating plan, 2) determining key success metrics for development activities, 3) spearheading and overseeing special projects as directed by the Vice President, Regional Planning, and 4) working closely with the VP to create and manage the Development Office budget, and 5) partnering with the Finance department on reconciliation and audit activities.  
 
Responsibilities 
Development Operations 
  • Partner closely with the VP of Regional Development – NYC and development team to ensure smooth coordination and execution of regional fundraising initiatives 
  • Coordinate and oversee giving and donor-engagement activity into CRM database; work closely with colleagues to ensure comprehensive data capture 
  • Partner with team members and network to gather requirements for generating dashboards, lists and revenue reports 
  • Coordinate revenue tracking, ensuring all financial data is accurate, current, and reconciled with finance and accounting teams 
  • Proactively propose new reports, dashboards, analysis and other data visualizations to support goals 
  • Coordinate donor acknowledgement letters in a timely manner to support donor stewardship 
Project Management 
  • Lead strategic planning for department and revenue budgets, annual goal-setting and DevCom calendar 
  • Coordinate and manage planning and execution for annual appeals, donor stewardship materials and development communications 
  • Assist in the development of presentation materials for internal and external audiences, e.g. prospects, donors, senior leadership, board, etc. 
  • Lead “best practices” database and processes training for Development team  
  • Provide high-level administrative support to the Development Team and VP as needed  
System and Process Improvement 
  • Continuously identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, team workflows and streamline development operations 
  • Partner with Information Systems team in advising on Salesforce enhancements and other development tools to better drive team activity 
  • Coordinate cross-departmentally, particularly with finance to ensure accurate financial reporting on grants and donations and with schools to coordinate stewardship and volunteer activities 
  • Establish standard operating procedures and resources for centralized knowledge management

Qualifications
Experience and Qualifications 
  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience in development operations, project management, strategic planning or a similar role in nonprofit philanthropy 
  • Demonstrated success advancing multiple initiatives simultaneously with focus and rigor, while leading with thoughtfulness, emotional intelligence and respect for others 
  • Strong experience in database management (Salesforce), project management and financial tracking  
  • Advanced proficiency in Salesforce or comparable CRM systems, Excel, PowerPoint, and data management tools. 
  • Experience building and scaling operations in high-growth, entrepreneurial environments 
  • Familiarity with the NYC/ philanthropic landscape and experience supporting philanthropic efforts in education, social service and/ or nonprofit sectors preferred 

Additional Information
Work Conditions 
  • Full-Time position based in KIPP NYC’s Manhattan office with a hybrid schedule. 
  • Minimal travel required (less than 10%). 
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required for special events and fundraising activities.

Compensation and Benefits 
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, and relevant experience. The salary range for this position is [$120,000-$145,000]. In addition, KIPP Foundation provides a variety of benefits to employees, including:  
  • 25 holidays for + 18 days additional flexible PTO days (flexible PTO increases to 23 days for years 3 and 4 and to 28 days for years 5+).
