Director, Digital Strategy & Web Services Full Description

Overview: 
Reporting to the Executive Director of College Relations, the Director of Web Services provides strategic vision, leadership, and operational oversight and maintenance for digital platforms at Brookdale Community College, including the main website (Brookdalecc.edu), Employee Hub (Internal SharePoint), and MyBrookdaleApp and future web based products launched to enhance the student experience. Beyond managing design, development, and maintenance, the Director is responsible for driving digital transformation initiatives, integrating advanced web technologies, and ensuring seamless user experiences across all digital touchpoints. This role leads the development and execution of a comprehensive digital strategy that supports college-wide goals for enrollment, marketing, student support, community engagement, and internal communications while ensuring compliance with evolving legal, regulatory, and security requirements. Responsibilities: 
Strategic Leadership: 
  • Develop and execute a college-wide digital strategy that aligns with institutional objectives for enrollment, marketing, outreach, and student engagement.
  • In conjunction with the Office of Information Technology, serve as an advisor to executive leadership on digital communications, web policy, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead digital transformation projects, including the integration of new web-based systems and applications.
  • Oversee all aspects of Brookdale’s web presence, including the main website, intranet, mobile apps, and ancillary systems.
  • Direct the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of web projects, ensuring alignment with college branding and strategic goals.
  • Integrate analytics, SEO, and data-driven decision-making into digital operations, providing actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Ensure robust cybersecurity measures are in place and proactively manage digital risks.
 
 Website Management:
  • Designs and implements new features and functionality for the College website. 
  • Responsible for managing all webpage edits received from various constituents throughout the College. 
  • Establishes and enforces branding guidelines and web best practices to the information architecture for each site or content management system (CMS).
  • Manages all technical aspects of College CMS and ensures high-performance and availability of the website.
  • Oversees and conducts web content updates and quality assurance to ensure adherence to college branding guidelines and collaborates with college vendors such as Ally Marketing, and Ellucian, and other test users. 
  • Performs debugging and website maintenance, fixing website issues, and locating and identifying potential issues.
  • Enhances webpage performance by staying up to date with SEO best practices. 
  • Creates branded landing pages to help promote any specific advertising campaign. 
  • Familiar with adding digital campaign code to specific webpages to track success of digital campaigns. 
  • Provides the Executive Director of College Relations recommendations for best practices on website enhancements to ensure top web performance. 
  • Assists with managing and making recommendations to the Executive Director, College Relations with on how to best utilize the website services maintenance funds. 
 
Web Strategy
  • Responsible for developing the website strategy for brookdalecc.edu, which will include but be limited to providing professional, creative, and technical guidelines to increase website visibility and enhance communications to the external community.
  • Provide reports on website performance using Google Analytics and web analytics. 
  • Evaluate existing websites, create plans for improvements, and implement changes in collaboration with the College Relations team, as well as other campus constituents when needed.
  • Ensure the College website is ADA compliant in terms of design and code. 
  • Supervises Part-Time Web Administrator.
 
Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications to ensure the Communication Strategy is properly executed on the College website.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of College Relations to ensure any advertising campaigns are properly linked back to the college website. 
  • Collaborate with other College departments as needed to ensure smooth transitions are in place for third party vendor services that have an entry point from the College website.
  • Collaborate with OIT for any Ellucian products that need to be linked from the main College website. 
  • Other Duties as Assigned. 
Qualifications: 
Minimum Education & Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, software engineering, or related field.
  • 5 years’ experience as web developer, web programmer, software analyst, or similar position.
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must be computer literate with ability to utilize Microsoft Office at an intermediate level and the ability to learn and utilize specific higher education programs and systems.
  • Ability to learn and apply office practices, procedures, policies, and regulations that are essential to the position.
  • Ability to travel within the county and state.
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
 

  • Expert knowledge of content management systems, including WordPress, SEO, Google Analytics, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Products such as Recruit and Experience a plus. 
  • Strong knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML5, JavaScript, and jQuery;
  • Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications.
  • Experience designing and developing accessible (WCAG 2.0) and responsive design websites.
  • Familiarity working with debugging tools like Firebug and Chrome Inspector
  • Demonstrated ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Demonstrated ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages.
  • Strong knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML);
  • Experience with PHP back-end development; and
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities. 
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends and for attendance at Board meetings.
