Job Description Summary

Organization Summary Statement:
This position provides strategic leadership for technology and data services across the Division of Administration reporting to the Associate Vice President and Chief of Staff. The role is responsible for divisional technology and data strategy, governance, services, and support in alignment with the division's strategic plan. 

Working across a distributed technology environment, this position provides visibility into divisional technology needs, risks, priorities, and opportunities, leads division-wide initiatives, and advances improvements in divisional technology governance, documentation, support pathways, resourcing, continuity, modernization, and organizational change management. 

The position serves as a primary liaison among division leadership, embedded and unit-based technology staff, the Division of Information Technology, senior campus leaders, and other partners to align efforts, reduce fragmentation, and improve coordinated decision-making. 

The Director represents the division in enterprise technology, analytics, security, and platform discussions, and leads cross-unit coordination on shared platforms and systems to improve consistency, reduce duplication, and support sound investment decisions. This position provides direct and indirect functional leadership for technology employees and affiliated personnel across the division including supervising IT staff in Facilities Management.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Ten (10) years of professional experience in technology, data, digital services, or operational functions, including strategic planning, implementation, and oversight. Five (5) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of information technology strategies and best practices. 
Skill in examining and evaluating operations and developing strategies, systems, and procedures.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google products.
Ability to analyze data and provide insight and recommendations to stakeholders.
Ability to supervise and train employees.

Additional Job Details

Preferences:
  • Graduate degree in social science, information science, computer science, engineering, public administration, business administration, or related field 
  • Experience leading IT teams or overseeing technology and data functions in a large, complex, decentralized higher education institution or similarly scaled organization comparable to the University of Maryland 
  • Experience supporting or overseeing mission-critical operational systems such as public safety, transportation, facilities, emergency management, or other operational technology environments 
  • Experience leading technology-related organizational realignment, including changes to roles, reporting lines, or service models
