Frontline’s Data & Analytics business is dedicated to unlocking the full potential of district data. Our platforms help school systems move from information to action—enabling smarter, faster, and more transparent decisions across every dimension of district leadership.
Our suite includes:
- Business Analytics – forecasting and financial planning
- Comparative Analytics – peer benchmarking and performance insights
- Student Analytics – predictive student and teacher insights
- Location Analytics – GIS-powered planning and boundary management
Together, these solutions help district leaders make sense of their data, communicate clearly, and act confidently.
How You’ll Contribute to Our Mission
We’re seeking a Director of Engineering to lead a ~30-person engineering organization (onshore + offshore) building and evolving Frontline’s analytics product suite.
This is a transformational engineering leadership role responsible for:
- Modernizing our platform
- Leading AI-enabled product innovation
- Improving delivery velocity and quality
- Driving scalable, multi-tenant SaaS architecture
- Partnering with Product to define an AI-native roadmap
This role works closely with Product, Data Science, DevOps, Security, and Client Success (via Product-led discovery).
How You’ll Drive Success
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and inspire a high-performing team of application developers, data engineers, SRE and DevOps - onshore and offshore - responsible for delivering high-quality analytics solutions on time and within budget.
- Drive the organization’s shift from maintenance to growth, innovation, and AI-enabled value creation.
- Partner with Product Management on roadmap planning, discovery, and capacity alignment.
- Collaborate with DevOps, Security, IT, Platform, and Data Science to ensure performance, reliability, and security.
- Define and report KPIs relating to delivery, quality, reliability, and team health.
- Serve as a cultural leader modeling humility, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Create a clear succession plan and develop talent in alignment with your vision.
AI Engineering & Platform Evolution
- Guide integration of LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), predictive models, embeddings, and other AI capabilities.
- Drive high-level MLOps/LLMOps practices—model lifecycle, monitoring, evaluation, guardrails, and responsible AI alignment.
- Partner with Data Science to operationalize models in production.
- Ensure AI features are reliable, safe, and aligned with K–12 expectations for equity, transparency, and privacy.
- Evolve our architecture to support AI-native analytics experiences.
Technical Execution & Delivery
- Oversee development of multi-tenant SaaS products using:
- Languages/Frameworks: Java/Spring, Python, JavaScript
- Data: PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, ETL/ELT pipelines, NoSQL
- Infrastructure: AWS, microservices, Git-based CI/CD
- Analytics: Tableau and related BI tooling
- Lead modernization initiatives to enhance scalability, maintainability, and AI readiness.
- Manage the full SDLC—planning, estimation, architecture, testing, deployments, and quality controls.
- Leverage your solid grasp on analytic data solutions to deliver the right architecture, at the right time, to align with Frontline's connected data future.

What You Bring to Help Us Grow
- Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years in software/data engineering; 7+ years in engineering leadership
- Experience leading distributed/hybrid teams
- Experience with multi-tenant, cloud-native SaaS (AWS preferred)
- Experience with modern data architecture, analytics platforms, and BI
- Strong Agile and SDLC leadership
- Excellent communication with technical and non-technical audiences
- Familiarity with data security, privacy, and governance
What You’ll Need to Thrive
- Experience operationalizing AI/ML (LLMs, RAG, embeddings, MLOps/LLMOps)
- Collaboration with Data Science or ML engineering teams
- Predictive modeling, forecasting, or intelligent decision-support systems experience
- Microservices, NoSQL, event-driven architecture
- EdTech or data-intensive domain experience

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this role is $170,000 - $200,000 per year, based on experience, skills, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, this role includes a bonus, personalized PTO, and comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, 401k, and much more!
