Overview:
The Director of Academic Advisment provides strategic leadership and oversight of academic advising services while supporting student recruitment initiatives. This role is responsible for enhancing student success, retention, and enrollment through comprehensive advising programs and targeted recruitment strategies. The Director collaborates with faculty, admissions, and student services to ensure a seamless student experience from prospective student engagement through program completion. The role provides programmatic support to the GSBMS’s Master’s and PhD Programs via four major areas of responsibility: recruitment, admissions, advisement, and administration.
Responsibilities:
Recruitment: Develop a thorough understanding of all GSBMS programs (Ph.D. and Master’s) and support multiple aspects of student recruitment across these offerings. In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Admissions, the individual in this role will participate in a range of recruitment initiatives, including:
- Establish and maintain relationships with undergraduate advisors and career services professionals.
- Ensure the website remains current, accurate, and user-friendly with respect to admissions and GSBMS program information.
- Monitor and manage the institution’s presence on external platforms (e.g., GradSchools.com, AAMC.org).
- Maintain an active and strategic presence across social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) to support marketing and recruitment efforts.
- Represent the institution at external partnerships.
- Prepare printed (brochures, posters, etc.) and electronic materials for marketing, promotion, advertisement, and other GSBMS communications and events.
- Develop and implement comprehensive recruitment strategies to meet enrollment goals.
- Identify and cultivate partnerships with colleges, universities, and organizations to build a strong applicant pipeline.
- Represent the institution at recruitment events, graduate fairs, open houses, and information sessions.
- Oversee outreach campaigns, including email, virtual events, and targeted communications.
- Engage directly with prospective students to provide program guidance and support informed decision-making.
- Monitor recruitment trends, analyze market data, and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to enhance program visibility and branding.
Admissions: Facilitate the evaluation of candidates during the admissions process and coordinate their transition to matriculated status in various ways, including:
- Review applicant profiles and provide input on admissions decisions when appropriate.
- Support yield efforts by maintaining communication with admitted students and encouraging enrollment.
- Assist the program faculty in interviewing candidates, as appropriate.
- Oversee the transition from admitted applicant to matriculant (active status).
Advisement: Provide guidance to matriculated students that includes:
- Advise Master’s students on applications to postgraduate and professional programs (e.g., medical, dental, podiatric).
- Conduct mock interviews to prepare students for admissions and professional opportunities.
- Support program faculty in the preparation of letters of recommendation for students pursuing further education or career opportunities.
- Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of academic advising services.
- Establish and maintain advising policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with institutional priorities.
- Monitor student academic progress and coordinate interventions to address academic challenges.
- Leverage data analytics to evaluate advising outcomes and guide strategic improvements.
- Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to ensure accurate and effective academic guidance.
Administration: Administrative duties will include the following:
- Track professional school placements and overall student career outcomes.
- Support the Dean, Associate Deans, and Administrator in evaluating, revising, and developing policies related to graduate programs.
- Assist in the preparation of budget projections and oversight of program expenditures.
- Monitor recruitment and marketing expenses and assess their effectiveness.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree: liberal arts, science or business.
- Graduate degree: desirable but not essential.
- Student advising, teaching.
- Previous employment in an academic institution.
- Previous recruitment experience highly desirable.
- Current driver's license and clean driving record.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Professional, Photoshop.
- Create and deliver presentations.
- Demonstrate competency in a wide range of communication material such as print, advertisements, writing, website, emails, social media, design, etc.
- Social media advertising - Google AdWords, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
- Analyze and track marketing effectiveness.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and pleasant, engaging manner.
- Work under pressure, manage more than one project at a time, and meet deadlines.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, internal administration/faculty and external parties.
Minimum Salary: USD $58,400.00/Yr. Maximum Salary: USD $73,000.00/Yr.
