Job Summary
Report to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and partner with multiple stakeholders to direct and manage the effective operation of the Advising unit. Core responsibilities include the daily management, supervision, and operations of the Advising unit according to student needs and demands and active contribution to curriculum-focused committees in the John Martinson Honors College. Ensure consistent, high-quality support through advising high-ability students. Strategically implement advising best practices with emphasis on student retention, degree completion, and success. Participate in the development and implementation of strategic planning as well as key elements of tactical and short and long term operational and assessment plans, including learning outcomes for student appointments. Partner, where appropriate, with other John Martinson Honors College and University stakeholders to implement intentional strategies towards curriculum completion. Directly supervise 10 Honors Advisors and 2 Senior Honors Advisors across two locations, West Lafayette and Indianapolis. Professional development funds provided for dissemination of best practices.

What We’re Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Four (4) years of academic advising or student services experience (years of academic advising or student services experience may include graduate teaching, research, and administrative associate positions)
- Three (3) years of supervising professional or graduate staff
Skills needed:
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of academic advising
- Knowledge of key issues related to recruiting and advising highly motivated, high-achieving undergraduates
- Must be able to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy is necessary
- Must have excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and resolve conflict
- Basic skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with student information systems strongly
- Ability to work independently with guidance from a supervisor in a team-oriented environment
Nice to have:
- Advising undergraduates
- Experience working in an honors program or college
- Experience working with related student-centered areas (e.g., leadership, study abroad, research, teaching, etc.)
- Experience in academic program development
