Orientation: Manages new student advisement; including new first year students & transfers. Oversee daily operations for New Student Orientation for MCEC Advisement. Prepare advisement materials and handouts. Assess degree applicability of transfer, AP, IB, CLEP, dual-enrollment, and other college credits; provide results to other advisors. Serve as liaison with the Office of New Student Orientation. Obtain and maintain records of students participating in orientation. Provide oversight to ensure accurate advisement of these students on major selection, degree requirements and academic policies. Creates guides and procedural manuals to ensure standard practices. Directs intake advising appointments, requirements, and process for USC Major Change students changing major to Engineering and Computing. Provides advisement as necessary.

Advisement Coordination: Manage all aspects of advising, including policies, procedures for UAA coordination. Oversee, supervise, and serve as point of reference to all MCEC Academic Advisors. Develop and document procedures and manage continuous improvement in advising practices for MCEC undergraduate academic advisors in alignment with University & college best practices and directives. Serve as liaison to University Advising Center and Registrar for MCEC advisor access to and training on advising software and tools. Serve as proxy member of the Advising Directorate for the MCEC & as voting member of the University Advising Network for the MCEC. Manage UAA caseload assignments processes and database, including assigning and balancing of caseloads. Initiate studies and make recommendations to promote excellent advising. Provide semester reports to the Assistant Dean to identify areas for improvement and student trends. Implement and execute quality advising assurance checks. Assume advising caseloads of others during position vacancies or in times of expanded enrollment

Progression and Retention: Design and implement comprehensive campaigns for outreach to students at risk including those on major probation, academic probation, suspension reinstatement & major GPA requirements. Serve as liaison to the Hardship Withdrawal team and notifies advisors of decisions that impact their students. Review students’ academic standing for any discrepancies for their academic status and facilitate any changes with the office of the Registrar. Confirm eligibility for change of major in such cases. Facilitate communications with advisors and students. Identify and alert students who are at-risk of violating such policies and direct them to appropriate resources. Provide annual reports to the Assistant Dean on student progress and changes.

Process applications for transient enrollment, study abroad, independent study, overrides and other special academic opportunities requiring college and/or university approvals. Advise students on petitions process. Execute Registrar transactions. Assist with operations of Student Services, and respond to phone, email, and walk-in requests. Coordinate additional front office support during high-volume student walk in times such as start of term & registration. Assist with advisor-student communications for senior checks and graduation certification. Act as Assistant Dean as needed.

Ongoing Advisement: Oversee MCEC use of available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising by advising staff and faculty. Participates in on-going training to ensure information accuracy and effective advising techniques are implemented throughout MCEC UAA”s. Oversee Major Change advising process for students changing major to Engineering and Computing. Administer educational guidance and assistance for students with special needs, including military, athletes and other student populations in order to ensure timely degree completion. Assist such students by planning schedules, recommending courses and determining appropriate education solutions. When needed coordinate with the Assistant Dean for trouble shooting complex matters. Maintain a caseload of up to 50 students & serve as temporary advisor to students who are changing majors or otherwise conditional until they can officially be assigned. Maintain and apply knowledge of academic requirements, policies, and resources. Use advising software as provided by the University. Oversee the maintenance complete and accurate advisement records. Develop and manage advisor level MCEC communications & implement UAC global communications.

Uses appropriate management principles according to University and College policy and procedures, completes EPMS planning and reviews timely and accurately. Responsible for strategic planning for MCEC advisement. Create and manage advising processes and timelines for staff to ensure consistent advisement, outreach and response.
