Director of Engineering
Job Overview:
As the Director of Engineering at Lexia, you will play a critical role in leading the development of world class educational products and you will help to develop and execute our comprehensive data, security, and privacy strategies. You will be responsible for maintaining a unified security program that safeguards our organization's people, assets, and information.
You will work closely with the Sr. Directory of Data, Security and Privacy as well as Cambium’s Security, IT, and Legal teams to implement and ensure our systems and processes adhere to the best-in-class standards around information security and privacy. You will also collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Infrastructure teams to design, develop and deploy the educational products supported by Lexia’s Learning Core Platform as well as support the student technologies that supplement the Voyager Sopris Learning curriculum products.
The Director of Engineering will report directly to the Sr. Director of Data, Security, and Privacy and will be a key member of the engineering leadership team.
Job Responsibilities:
Data, Security, and Privacy Planning:
- Implement a comprehensive security and data security strategy aligned with the company's objectives and values.
- Ensure your organization complies with relevant security and data protection regulations, industry standards, and legal requirements.
- Be a major source for Engineering, Infrastructure and DevOps for answering questions on RFPs and Technical Questionnaires.
- Maintain security policies, procedures, and guidelines for both security and data security.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, ensuring they are well-trained and equipped to carry out their responsibilities.
- Foster a culture of security awareness, accountability, and data protection throughout the organization and software development lifecycle.
- Promote an environment of experimentation and continual improvement through regular sprints, technical debt reduction and a forward-thinking architectural runway.
- Use extensive management skills and experience to develop technical and managerial leadership talents and create a vibrant culture of mutual support and motivation.
- Apply critical thinking to anticipate and manage risk while prioritizing engineering activity.
Engineering:
- Guide engineers on an agile team in building web applications using Java, AWS Lambdas, and Typescript.
- Be fully engaged and hands-on with design, coding, code reviews, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with product, architecture, and agile team members in ensuring successful delivery of monthly releases.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (security, data security, engineering, or related disciplines). A master's degree or relevant certifications is a plus.
- Proven experience in leading engineering teams with a minimum of 7 years in leadership roles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of software engineering security technologies, risk assessment, and information security for engineering teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proactive and adaptable in the face of evolving engineering, security and data protection threats and challenges.
- Experience working in an agile or SAFe development environment.
