Fishtank Learning is a growing education technology non-profit that is supporting teachers across the country with high-quality K-12 ELA and Math instructional materials. At Fishtank Learning, we believe that teachers and their students deserve access to the highest quality instructional materials. Our in-house curriculum team has spent the last decade drawing on their experience as classroom teachers to develop the Fishtank curriculum. We continually refine and improve our content and tools to reflect the best evidence-based practices and serve the evolving needs of

Overview of Role
We are seeking a growth oriented Director of Marketing to lead and build Fishtank’s internal marketing function. This role requires both strategic leadership and strong execution, particularly in demand generation, product marketing, and lifecycle communications, supporting the growth of Fishtank’s K–12 curriculum and digital platform. Fishtank has an established marketing strategy and foundation in place, and this role will focus on executing, refining, and scaling that work to drive stronger results. This role will be highly hands on, owning both strategy and execution while
building toward a more scalable team over time.

You will own and scale our demand generation engine while also leading how we communicate product updates, curriculum improvements, and value to both prospective and current partners.

This includes close collaboration with Curriculum, Product, School Partnerships, including Sales & Customer Success, and Implementation teams to ensure strong alignment across the full customer journey from awareness through renewal and expansion.

This role is focused on reaching and influencing district and network level decision makers, including curriculum leaders, instructional leaders, and system level administrators. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of how K-12 purchasing decisions are made and how to build trust with education leaders over time.

This role will also lead the transition from our current embedded marketing agency model to a fully in-house team, including building team structure, hiring, and establishing systems and processes for long-term success.

This role reports directly to the Managing Director of Growth and will play a critical role in strengthening Fishtank’s market position and supporting the organization’s next phase of growth.

Success in this role will be measured by growth in a qualified pipeline, increased brand
awareness, and strong alignment between marketing, sales, curriculum, and product.

Job Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Planning
Develop and lead the annual marketing strategy and roadmap aligned to organizational growth goals. Own the marketing budget, including forecasting, prioritization, and resource allocation.

Drive marketing efforts that support each stage of the customer journey, including awareness, consideration, adoption, and renewal.

Demand Generation and Pipeline Growth
Own and scale a multi channel demand generation engine to drive qualified leads and pipeline growth. Lead integrated campaigns across email, paid media, organic channels, webinars, and partnerships. Continuously test, learn, and optimize to improve conversion rates and return on investment.

Product Marketing and Partner Communications
Lead how Fishtank communicates product updates, curriculum enhancements, and key value propositions to both prospective and current partners. Partner closely with Product and Curriculum teams to translate updates into clear and compelling messaging that support adoption, usage, and renewals.

Content and Thought Leadership
Oversee the development of high quality content that builds credibility and drives engagement, including blogs, webinars, case studies, and sales enablement materials. Ensure content aligns to key campaigns and supports both demand generation and partner success.

Events, Webinars and Partnerships
Own strategy for conferences, webinars, and external partnerships. Ensure these channels drive both brand awareness and lead generation. Evolve the webinar program as a core demand generation and engagement lever.

Marketing Operations and Performance
Define key performance indicators across the marketing funnel and build systems for tracking performance. Partner closely with School Partnerships to ensure strong alignment between marketing and sales. Use data to inform decision making, improve attribution, and optimize campaigns.

Team Leadership and Development
Build and lead Fishtank’s internal marketing team over time, including defining team structure, hiring, onboarding, and coaching. Manage external partners and freelancers as needed during the transition period. Establish strong planning processes, team rhythms, and accountability structures.

Cross Functional Collaboration
Work closely with School Partnerships, Implementation, Product, and Curriculum teams to ensure alignment across the full partner experience.

Education, Experience, and Skills
● Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Education, or a related field, or
equivalent professional experience
● 8 plus years of marketing experience, including experience in K-12 education, EdTech, or
SaaS
● Experience marketing and selling to K-12 schools, including district or network level
decision makers, required
● Strong experience in demand generation, campaign strategy, and marketing operations
● Experience building or scaling marketing functions in a growing organization preferred
● Proven ability to manage and develop individuals and teams
● Experience working cross functionally with product, sales, and customer success teams
● Familiarity with marketing systems such as Salesforce, email marketing platforms such as
Mailchimp, and marketing automation tools
● Understanding of K-12 education landscape, curriculum, and instructional practices
strongly preferred
● Experience working in schools or school systems is a strongly preferred
● Ability to translate research, pedagogy, and complex ideas into clear, compelling
messaging while maintaining accuracy and depth
● Experience developing content that balances academic research and education expertise
with accessibility and engagement
● Passion for expanding access to high quality instructional materials and improving
outcomes for historically underserved students
● Demonstrated ability to work effectively across lines of difference and build inclusive,
collaborative relationships
● Highly organized with strong project management and prioritization skills
● Resourceful and adaptable, with the ability to operate effectively in a mission driven
nonprofit environment
● Willingness to be both strategic and hands on, taking ownership of execution while
building toward a more scalable team over time
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $95,000- $115,000, depending on experience. Competitive
benefits are available.
