Job Description
We are seeking a visionary and execution-oriented Director of Product to lead Paper’s product function and own our end-to-end AI strategy. This leader will scale GROW, our flagship high-impact tutoring product, while driving innovation across our platform through AI.

You’ll play a central role in shaping how students and educators engage with Paper—balancing innovation with responsibility to ensure AI is applied in ways that build trust, safeguard equity, and drive measurable academic outcomes. By scaling effective tutoring and unlocking the power of AI, your work will make a tangible difference for students striving to reach grade level, tutors working to deliver personalized support, and teachers seeking tools that lighten their load and amplify their impact.

This is a unique opportunity to join at an inflection point, where your leadership will directly influence Paper’s trajectory and accelerate student achievement at scale.

What You’ll Do
  • Define and own the vision and roadmap for Paper’s tutoring and learning solutions.
  • Scale GROW, our high-impact tutoring product, to deliver measurable student outcomes and meaningful ROI for districts.
  • Translate advances in AI/ML into impactful features that enhance personalization, tutor efficiency, and learning insights.
  • Partner closely with engineering, design, and data science to scope, prioritize, and deliver high-quality features with speed and rigor.
  • Engage deeply with districts, educators, and students to uncover needs, validate solutions, and ensure our products drive measurable impact.
  • Define success metrics, experiment systematically, and apply insights to drive continuous improvement of our product solutions.
  • Lead with a builder’s mindset, rolling up your sleeves to write PRDs, deliver demos, or debug workflows when needed.
  • Ensure products are designed with ethical, transparent, and equitable use of AI at their core.
  • Mentor and develop product managers and product designers as our team scales over time.

What We’re Looking For
  • 7+ years of product management experience, with at least 3+ years leading AI/ML-powered products and teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver AI/ML solutions that directly improve user experience and measurable outcomes, with strong technical fluency in concepts like LLMs, NLP, and generative AI.
  • Track record of building products from 0→1 and scaling them in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to zoom between big-picture vision and hands-on execution; willing to roll up your sleeves and start lean with limited resources.
  • Ability to build, motivate, and lead a high-performing, lean team that thrives in a fast-moving environment.
  • Deep customer empathy and ability to prioritize solving real user problems over chasing shiny features.
  • Exceptional communication skills—you can inspire engineers, executives, educators, and customers alike.
  • A bias toward action and comfort with ambiguity; you thrive when the playbook is still being written.

The annual salary range for this position is $190,000 - $210,000 USD or $150,000 - $175,000 CAD, plus equity. Please note that the final offer amount is determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
