As a director of visual media, you will oversee the creative team and produce photography and video content under strict deadlines. You will research, write, and edit projects for screen and online platforms, as directed by the executive director of visual media in collaboration with public relations (PR), marketing, creative direction, and other departments. You will also work closely with communications managers, production managers, photographers, videographers, editors, and graphic artists to ensure each project is completed on time. Responsibilities also include supervising the lead executive videographer, executive editor, sound technician, executive motion graphics artist, and executive production coordinator. Additionally, you will review, research, and evaluate ideas for requested content and interviewees, and commission vendors for video editing, audio sweetening, transcriptions, translations, makeup, and production assistants.
In this role, you will collaborate with staff to plan and carry out all requested department productions, ensuring high-quality results for each project. You will implement and modify leading industry practices for visual media within the SCAD environment, organize shoot schedules, and serve as the on-site producer for events. Responsibilities also include the supervision of project progress from production through post-production, approval, completion, and delivery. You will approve all media before further review and collaborate with the PR and marketing teams to distribute materials. Additionally, you will build a team that combines creative and practical talent to successfully complete projects.
In this position, you will work with media organizations and manage award submissions. You will approach tasks with enthusiasm and creativity and coordinate a schedule with the executive director. You will also develop operational plans and procedures for staff, including goals and objectives aligned with SCAD’s strategic vision, as well as remain up to date on industry trends and practices.
The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent interpersonal, modern creative, and technical abilities. They can also create high-quality visual and audio content. They are honest, punctual, and detail-focused, with the confidence to conduct important interviews with visiting artists, students, and staff or faculty. They can meet deadlines and manage demanding requests while staying flexible to adapt to rapidly shifting priorities.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least five years of experience in communications, media studies, photography, film and television, information technology, or broadcasting
- Available to work weekends and holidays
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally on short notice for extended periods
Preferred qualifications:
- Photography, videography, audio, and editing knowledge
Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
- Valid driver’s license
