Job Description Summary
This position is available within the University of Maryland's Division of Information Technology (DIT).
Director, Special Projects & Campus Partnerships is a customer-focused leader responsible for shaping and driving an integrated service strategy across UMD's core technology services—including campus networking, platform/infrastructure services, unified communications, and identity and access services—by working hands-on with technical leaders and stakeholders across the University.
This role serves as a strategic partner to academic and administrative units across campus, ensuring technology services are aligned to institutional priorities and delivered with excellent customer experience. The Director develops and executes an enterprise technology adoption strategy for key services and initiatives, building campus readiness through effective communications, training, stakeholder engagement, and measurable outcomes.
The Director works across the University's academic, administrative, and operational environments and collaborates with campus partners on major initiatives that require coordinated technology planning and execution.
This position directly manages the Unified Communications and Identity Management teams, aligning their roadmaps, service delivery, and adoption outcomes with campus needs and portfolio priorities.
**This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.**
**May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.**
Physical Demands: Predominantly operates in an office environment. Some periods of time may be spent in computer room and communications equipment spaces for installation, testing, and troubleshooting. Some work (less than 5%) requires moving and lifting of heavy networking equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Ten (10) years of professional information technology experience managing network, server, storage, or backup infrastructure. Five (5) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of tools and technology utilized to support instruction.
Knowledge of infrastructure services including server, storage, cloud (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS), network, and voice all within the context of IT security.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Google Workspace products.
Ability to set priorities, and meet deadlines.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
Additional Job Details
Preferences:
- Master's degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Business, Public Administration, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing technology adoption / change management strategies in complex environments.
- Demonstrated experience establishing governance for demand intake, prioritization, roadmapping, and outcome measurement across multiple teams.
- Experience partnering with a broad range of stakeholders across academic, administrative, and operational functions.
- Experience supporting identity and access services and/or unified communications services in a large enterprise environment.
Additional Information:
Please note that all positions within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) have an in person component with expected time in our College Park, MD location per week. Telework is not a guaranteed work arrangement.
