The Director, Workforce Learning shapes and executes Macmillan Learning’s strategy to expand into the workforce education and professional learning markets. This leader drives new business by identifying, developing, and scaling opportunities that connect learning to employability, skills advancement, and workforce readiness. The Director builds strategic partnerships with employers, training providers, and industry organizations while extending Macmillan Learning’s core strengths in content, learning science, and technology into the workforce ecosystem. Working closely with Product and Marketing, the Director plays a central role in market analysis, partnership development, and operational execution, ensuring that data, technology, and responsible AI are leveraged to improve learning outcomes, drive business performance, and advance Macmillan Learning’s mission of improving lives through learning.  This role does not manage direct reports.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Workforce Market Strategy Development and Documentation:
  • Define and execute a workforce learning market strategy aligned with Macmillan Learning’s diversification goals.
  • Develop market analysis measures and insights; conduct in-depth research to understand employer, employee, and training provider needs across corporate and professional learning segments.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of key trends in workforce development, skills-based hiring, and credentialing.
  • Build relationships and partnerships with strategically aligned organizations in the learning and workforce ecosystem.

Partnership and Ecosystem Development:
  • Identify, evaluate, and establish partnerships with employers, training organizations, content creators, and technology partners that accelerate growth in the workforce learning market.
  • Negotiate and manage strategic partnerships and alliances that enhance product offerings and distribution channels.
  • Represent Macmillan Learning in workforce learning communities, industry associations, and public-private initiatives to expand visibility and thought leadership.
  • Foster collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to co-create solutions that align with market needs and Macmillan Learning’s strategic direction.

Cross-Functional Market Strategy and Alignment:
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to inform and support go-to-market strategies that effectively position and promote workforce learning solutions, ensuring alignment across functions to maximize market impact.
  • Provide market and partnership insights that inform value propositions, target segments, and success metrics in collaboration with Product and Marketing.
  • Support the development of pricing, packaging, and commercial models that meet customer and partner needs while achieving business objectives.

Data-Driven Market and Performance Management:
  • Monitor and analyze key market and business performance metrics to evaluate opportunities, growth trends, and partnership success.
  • Track financial and operational measures to inform resource allocation and investment decisions.
  • Collaborate with Product and Marketing to align on product- and market-level insights that complement market analysis.
  • Apply data-informed insights to refine strategy, improve customer outcomes, and guide continuous improvement.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Model resilient, transparent, and adaptive leadership that fosters a culture of innovation, accountability, and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with peers across Macmillan Learning to align workforce learning initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Mentor emerging leaders and team members in workforce learning strategy and execution.
  • Promote experimentation and learning agility across teams to accelerate progress and achieve measurable impact. 

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in the workforce learning, professional training, or corporate education market, including demonstrated success developing and scaling business opportunities.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and collaborating across product, marketing, and business teams to achieve strategic goals.
  • Deep understanding of the workforce learning ecosystem, including employer training needs, skills-based hiring, credentialing, and upskilling/reskilling programs.
  • Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and execute partnership strategies with employers, training providers, and workforce technology organizations.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with experience applying data and market insights to inform business and investment decisions.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship management skills across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, foster innovation, and deliver measurable results in a dynamic market environment.

  • Passion for staying current with future-of-work trends and using emerging tech (e.g., AI, micro-credentials, learning analytics) to build more inclusive learning pathways.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $140,000

Exemption Status: Exempt

Physical Requirements:
Requires periods of close concentration; must be able to multi-task; must be able to travel occasionally; work overtime - more than 40 hours a week – regularly, as needed.

The position is eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming.
