Description
The Editorial Director within Macmillan Audio is a strategic leader who will drive the acquisition and development of audiobooks, helping to shape the creative and strategic direction of the audio publishing program. You will lead an accomplished editorial team, forge and nurture key relationships with authors and agents, and collaborate across departments to deliver high-quality, commercially successful audio titles that captivate listeners and expand our market reach.

What you'll do:
  • Acquire and develop high-impact titles that align with Macmillan Audio’s business goals and a deep understanding of listener/market demands.
  • Evaluate proposals and manuscripts for viability on audio, providing expert guidance on acquisitions, author relations, and project execution.
  • Mentor and guide the editorial team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment while ensuring editorial excellence and professional growth
  • Oversee the editorial process for audiobooks, from proposal through publication, ensuring quality, timeliness, and market relevance.
  • Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with authors, agents, and content creators to grow the audio publishing list.
  • Collaborate with production, marketing, sales, and design teams to deliver compelling and innovative audio products.
  • Analyze industry trends, listener behavior, and competitive landscapes to inform editorial direction.
  • Set and manage title budgets in partnership with finance, sales, and production teams.
  • Oversee the licensing of rights and use of masters to English-language audio publishers in other countries
  • Represent the Audio department at industry events, conferences, and author meetings.
  • Drive innovation in audio storytelling, exploring new formats, genres, and creative opportunities.

Ideal Experience/Education:
  • Five plus years of publishing experience in a senior editorial or acquisitions role
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
This role will have an annual salary of $130,000 - $135,000.
