Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of the Instructional Design (ID) Studio under the leadership of the Associate Dean of Education Digital Transformation and Data Strategy, the Education Specialist/Instructional Designer will work with faculty and staff to design, create, and deliver instructional materials and related digital media in support of learning, teaching, assessment, and improving student outcomes. The Education Specialist/Instructional Designer will assist with promotion and outreach of instructional design services and related efforts across WashU Medicine.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 
Collaborate and Create
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff, providing guidance on the effective instructional design of courses and sessions.
  • Support subject matter experts in the development and creation of content for their courses and instructional sessions.
  • Provide assistance with the creation of course material/media supporting student learning objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with ID Studio and other School of Medicine colleagues to create interactive videos and other multimedia for instructional needs.
  • Liaise with WashU Information Technology and other instructional designers and education specialists to solve common problems and maximize use of available tools, services, spaces, and resources.
  • Promote available instructional design services within the WashU Medicine community.
  • Partner in the collaboration and development of training resources for faculty, staff, and/or students.
  • Partner in the delivery of training sessions for faculty, staff, and/or students.
     
Project Management
  • Develop and manage multiple project plans.
  • Establish deadlines with project partners, lead project meetings, and effectively communicate project milestones.
  • Work in collaboration with the Office of Education , with guidance from ETIU leadership to establish priority assignments.
Instructional Design Service and Consultation
  • Provide consultation and training on educational technologies and course/session design to the WashU Medicine community. 
  • Provide support in the design and creation of instructional materials for WashU Medicine faculty through the utilization of appropriate in-person, blended, and online instruction solutions based on best practices, educational research, and appropriate assessment methods.
  • Assist in resolving copyright and fair use issues for instructional materials in collaboration with Becker Medical Library staff.
Other Duties
  • Participate in WashU Medicine community activities and professional development.
  • As helpful to the institution, attend and present at professional conferences.
  • As needed, travel to on-campus and off-campus sites to provide collaborative support for instructional content/media.
  • Other duties as assigned.
