POSITION SPECIFICS​

The Penn State Smeal College of Business is seeking a talented, data-driven email marketing professional to serve as our primary Marketing Cloud expert and day-to-day campaign executor. In this role, you'll be the go-to resource for building, optimizing, and managing email campaigns that connect students, alumni, prospects, and partners with relevant content at critical moments in their journeys.

This position is a hands-on production role where you'll work directly in Salesforce Marketing Cloud to build campaigns, troubleshoot technical issues, and support stakeholders across the College to ensure that their messaging is effective, timely, and connecting with the right audience. You'll have the opportunity to shape our email marketing standards, improve automation, and enhance personalization to help the College use Marketing Cloud to its fullest potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Campaign Development & Execution

  • Build and deploy email marketing campaigns using Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including designing and customizing email templates through drag-and-drop tools and basic HTML/CSS modifications.
  • Conduct A/B testing, and optimize campaigns for deliverability, open rates, and click-through rates.
  • Ensure emails render properly across devices, browsers, and email platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, content creators, and data analysts, to execute campaigns that meet stakeholder goals.

Strategy & Planning

  • Design and manage customer journeys with appropriate segmentation, personalization, and automation.
  • Recommend email strategies that align with College priorities and audience needs.
  • Work directly with data in Marketing Cloud and Salesforce to build targeted audiences.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage Marketing Cloud features more effectively.

Analytics, Compliance & Optimization

  • Monitor campaign performance and provide actionable insights for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and other relevant regulations.
  • Stay current with Marketing Cloud updates and email marketing best practices.
  • Troubleshoot data synchronization issues between Marketing Cloud and Salesforce.

Collaboration, Training & Support

  • Serve as the primary Marketing Cloud resource for colleagues across the College.
  • Provide technical support and training to help team members use the platform effectively.
  • Document processes and build resources that promote user adoption.
  • Evaluate and recommend email and marketing tools and technology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of hands-on email marketing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Direct experience building and executing email marketing in a complex email marketing platform. Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud strongly preferred.
  • Experience with HTML/CSS for email template customization (enough to make modifications).
  • Comfort working with data, including audience segmentation and basic data troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of email deliverability, responsive design principles, and digital marketing best practices.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and applying updates in Marketing Cloud along with evolving best practices in email marketing.
  • Excellent project management skills to work with multiple campaigns and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Clear communication skills and a demonstrated ability to foster inclusive and equitable partnerships to achieve shared goals.

Work Arrangement: The location of this position is flexible and can operate fully remote within most states in the United States, fully in-person at our University Park Campus, or in a hybrid model of both in-person and remote. Standard working hours are in the eastern time zone. Individuals working fully remotely may be asked to travel to Penn State to participate in certain on-campus activities.
