Job Summary
Note: this position may be virtually located with preference for NC, SC, FL, OH or IN.
This position works to analyze learning gaps and training needs in order to design and develop efficient approaches and effective outcomes of training courses and curricula pertaining to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) training, Human Performance (HP) training, and common technical training applicable across three or more BUs. Training courses, curricula, and materials will span all business/functional groups including Power Grid Operations, Natural Gas, Nuclear, Regulated and Renewable Energies, and Supply Chain. This will also include any training for process-centric topics as well as assistance with any enterprise training needed in the organization (e.g., finance, aviation, new projects, storm support, etc.).
Specific Job Details:
- Conducting Training Needs Analysis for key training programs and courses.
- Using adult learning theories to Design, Develop and maintain effective, efficient, engaging and entertaining learning solutions, including instructor-led (ILT) courses, lesson plans, videos, and both basic and advanced eLearning (eLT) modules.
- Designing and incorporating evaluative measures aligning with Kirkpatrick levels 1-4.
- Interfacing with the corporate learning Management System (LMS), as well as other storehouses of information as needed.
- Pilot, test, and troubleshooting problems or issues with eLearning.
- Collaborating with the Enterprise Training Program Managers to understand process, skill set, and knowledge gaps; and work with them on ideas for mitigation plans.
- Collaborating with multiple team members to ensure alignment and consistent methodologies for training development.
The position will require strong communication skills (strong written communication skills), and the ability to interpret the needs of the business and translate it into well-documented training material. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to present creative solutions and the ability to understand how to orient tasks to create efficient workflow in the parameters established by the Learning Development designs/templates.
Responsibilities
- Design and development within the scope of EHS, HP, and Common Technical training, as well as occasional ISD support for learning centers across the enterprise.
- Analysis of training needs to identify learning (knowledge, skill, attitude, ability) gaps that may be mitigated using the approaches and theories for adult learning. Design of training evaluation to determine efficacy and efficiency.
- Serves as technical and subject matter expert for ADDIE process – needs analysis, design and development specifically – and enterprise software and methodologies supporting the development of training.
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree
- In lieu of associate's degree, High School/GED and 3 years' work related experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3-Years of related work experience and one or more licenses and/or certifications in the Learning & Development field (examples: ATD, CPLP, INPO, other certified training courses, etc.)
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, policies, regulation, and current trends and events in the training environment internal and external to Duke Energy.
- Experience with content development tools such as Storyline, Camtasia, Photoshop,
Premiere, After Effects, HTML, etc. - Experience in graphic design
- Experience with developing training associated with regulatory compliance (e.g. Fall
Protection, Confined Space, Migratory Birds, etc.) - Experience in facilitating instructor-led (ILT) or virtual instructor-led (VILT) classes.
- Project management experience
- Experience with Lean principles and design approaches.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Four-year degree from and accredited college/technical school in Instructional Systems Design, Training and Development, Learning Technologies, Graphic Design, or other training related field
- Experience with instructional systems design processes (ADDIE, SAM, SAT)
- Experience with conducting a needs analysis
- Demonstrated application of adult learning principles, Blooms taxonomy, etc.
- Experience with implementing formal learning evaluation methodologies (Kirkpatrick, Phillips)
- Demonstrated proficiency with Articulate Storyline
- Ability to analyze and apply new training methods, applications, trends, and events impacting the field of adult learning
- Demonstrated project leadership skills to manage complex projects and to develop innovative, creative learning solutions that address knowledge, skills and attitude gaps leveraging efficient design
- Experience with synchronous/asynchronous approaches
Working Conditions
- Virtual Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from a remote location after the onboarding period. However, virtual employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
