Job Description Summary
This position is available within the University of Maryland's Division of Information Technology (DIT).
The Executive Director, MAX, works closely with the Assistant Vice President to oversee the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX) unit within DIT. This position collaborates with the technical director and business development lead to identify appropriate customer solutions and to integrate customer requirements with business operations. This position is ultimately responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability and competitive growth of MAX.
The Executive Director will represent the University of Maryland's Mid-Atlantic Crossroads at local and national meetings and conferences.
**This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.**
**May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.**
Physical Demands: Typical office physical demands. Must be able to sit, type and talk on the phone and in person. Position requires occasional (approximately 4-6 times per year) overnight travel to meetings at various locations around the United States.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Twelve (12) years of professional information technology experience. Six (6) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of written and oral communication principles, including techniques for adapting communication style to different audiences both individually and across the organization.
Knowledge of leadership and management principles, including delegation, guidance, support, and fostering collaboration.
Knowledge of project management principles, including defining project scope, assessing risks, setting deadlines, and managing project teams.
Knowledge of data analysis methods and techniques for leveraging data to inform decisions, develop multi-year visions, and propose solutions to senior leadership.
Knowledge of documentation standards, procedure development, and escalation/notification protocols for internal and external collaborations.
Knowledge of budget planning, allocation, and management practices.
Knowledge of office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces.
Skill in delivering effective presentations and training sessions to team members, stakeholders, or clients, including identifying opportunities for knowledge-sharing and skill development.
Skill in managing communications and relationships with senior leadership, campus stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
Skill in setting performance expectations, conducting evaluations, and implementing strategies to enhance productivity and quality.
Skill in comprehending and navigating interpersonal dynamics, demonstrating empathy, and managing conflicts or challenging circumstances.
Skill in coaching and mentoring team members to enhance performance, provide constructive feedback, and support skill development.
Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and develop Assistant Directors, Managers, and staff to identify and solve problems, make improvements, and address ongoing issues.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and external constituents, and represent the university at local, state, regional, and national forums.
Ability to effectively manage workload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Additional Job Details
Preferences:
- A track record of applying and receiving grant and/or contract awards
- Experience leading either a higher education self support unit or with a for profit business
- Sufficient understanding of networking and IT technology to translate between technical and non-technical staff
- Masters degree in Information Technology, Business, or a closely related field
Additional Information:
Please note that all positions within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) have an in person component with expected time in our College Park, MD location per week. Telework is not a guaranteed work arrangement.
